Re: Which route to purchase.

I'm trying to decide if I should get either Settle to Carlisle or Munchen - Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The S&C includes the Class 37 which has numerous repains but an EWS 66 & 158 Dmu's which I have other versions.
The M-GP has had a makeover with additional assets but it's mainly a passenger route with not much freight.

Cannot buy both so it's one or the other. :-?

Hi Peter,

I did see workshop scenarios for M-GP for freight and you can run locos like the DB BR103, DB BR111, DB BR420 etc on it, which all have excellent realism and scripting.

So if this kind of German content is your thing, and you have some of these trains already, I'd say, go for it!

However, the Settle to Carlisle line is a great piece too, I love the feel of driving over the S&C, and besides diesel freight hauling you also get all kinds of Steam Specials over this line. Oh, and it brings back memories of those times in MSTS ;-)

Choice is yours, of course - I have the S&C for a while already and got M-GP when it came out, both are great value, but recently I've been more into German stuff.

Good luck making a choice but I'd say that either way you can't go wrong! :-)

Thanks Tim,

I have the DB BR103, DB BR111, DB BR420 and it might be a new route for them to run on.
But I cannot get the hang of driving a kettle - driving the 103 is a piece of cake compared with the steam locos :)
+1 for the DB at the moment

The Steam Workshop has a couple of scenarios for the DB BR420 and it's colour liveried variants from the Market Place, pick up the blue one it has a couple of nice scenarios :-) And the orange one too if I remember correctly. :-)

I love the challenge of kettles, btw, although I agree that diesels & electrics are way easier to drive, even the fully scripted maximum-realism models! :-)

Don't forget Stuart's 1977 S&C route on the Workshop which builds greatly upon the default route and opens up a whole host of additional scenario possibilities over the original. Worth buying S&C just to run Stuart's version, IMHO. :D

Cheers

Hmmm, 1977 would be a good era to run the S&C - I will have a glance at the workshop page and see if there are any screen shots.

S&C 1 - 1 MGP, a draw with a few days left.

But the S&C actually gets you 2 routes (or rather, 2 versions of the same route), both maintained via Steam.

For M-GP you need to download extra stuff to make it look better, which you probably do want to.

So S&C gives less hassle, and you get more -- does that make it

S&C 2 - 1 M-GP?

or

S&C 3 - 1 M-GP?

;-)

Either way you choose, you can pick up the other route in the next sales ;)

The Final Result was S&C 0 - 1 M-GP :)
I looked at the improvement list for M-GP and only needed 4 things also the video in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=138141 convinced me.
