Hi ALl,

Firstly to explain my settings - expert controls is on in the main screen, and in the options screen "automatic fireman" is disabled. Generally settings are set to realistic as possible.

So - I'm driving the 7F around West Somerset Railway, and sometimes I get a grey popup box saying "Realistic Driving Mode Enabled" or "Legacy Driving Mode Enabled".

I don't know what key I hit that causes that, but I'd like to know:
* What is it?
* What does it do?
* How do I toggle it?
* Which addons have it?

The only difference I noticed is the behavior of the small ejector. On one mode I can't get the brakes into "running/lapped" and pressure is always going either up or down but not stable.

I have checked the WSR manual, and it doesn't mention it, and only has 1 page about the 7F..

ps I have some SSS sound/enhancement packs, but they usually use the ENTER key to toggle steam chest and brake simulation, this is definitely not that it is different.

The key in question is the "B" key. This toggles the Realistic/Legacy driving mode. This is a Steam Chest simulation and I suspect it is just an earlier version of the code that SSS have added to most of their loco's. The more recent examples use the 'Enter' key. I have the SSS 7F enhancement pack and my 7F behaves just as you describe. When in Realistic Driving Mode shutting off the regulator does not have immediate effect, hence my suspicion that this is indeed a steam chest simulation. Interestingly I'll be damned if I can find it documented anywhere.

I've noticed the same on the GWR Hall on the WSR.

I found out that it's the 'b' key which toggles the driving mode.

I do not have any SSS packs installed so it's not from that - it's from the loco as delivered by DTG!

As to what it does, I have no idea. I did notice that sometimes I get a wheelslip warning for braking, even when in complete standstill (!) and that this can go away by disabling the realistic driving mode, then reenabling it.

Ok then, that's interesting. I had just presumed it was from my SSS enhancement packs. So if RSC added it at some point, I still can't seem to find it documented anywhere.

Anyway, it does seem to be a Steam Chest simulation, amongst other things.

Thanks guys! Yes it was the b key, me trying to get a 2 tone horn I'm used to having sound packs.

So I checked out the SSS pack and it only applies to the 7F from Somerset and Dorset older model that does not have rain effects.

The new one with West Somerset railway is a totally different version, had rain on the windows, and no sound pack applied.

So yes it must be an RSC feature but yeah no documentation! To me it just makes the ejector and brakes act more unrealistic.. As I have to turn the ejector off at the wrong time.

I've been driving primarily in the "Realistic Mode" and I did notice that for instance changing the regulator handle in the cab, there's only a very slow and gradual change in the regulator pct in the F5 overlay - presumably this is to do with the emulation of delay to steam chest pressure changes when changing regulator settings?

Also I did notice the same behaviour with the brakes as what you mention, you can't hold the brakes 'steady' at a certain pressure.

Interesting driving anyway. I always find it difficult to stay within speed limits, and even more so on the WSR! But I'm enjoying the WSR a lot, that makes up for the impossibility to get any positive score on the career scenarios....
