Re: DTG class 27
I decided to go for this one straight away so here is a brief review.
First of all I think the price is very good. I don't know why some of these models cost £7.99 and others £11.99. You don't seem to get any more for the extra £4 but as this has a £7.99 price tag, I will leave that discussion there.
Model - It looks like a 27 although I feel the shape is slightly wrong in some areas, just my opinion. The green is the wrong shade which has been mentioned many times so I would rate this part of it 8/10.
Cab - I think the cab is excellent. The sharpness of the controls and dials is good and the lighting is very nice too. Features include instrument lighting and cab lighting. It would be nice if the sun blind worked but this is a minor issue. I would give the cab 9.5/10.
Sounds - I think the sounds are pretty good. The idle sound is very obviously a small Sulzer sound. When you open it up it makes a great noise. Whether it is exactly what a 27 sounds like I am not 100% convinced, it seems to be a slightly deeper noise than it should, almost a bit like a Ruston 37/9! I am not going to criticise this area much though as it really is a nice noise when you are rolling along. It makes a different track noise to anything I have heard before too. I would rate the sounds 9/10.
Simulation - I have only driven the loco on the Mid Hants route at the moment so can only comment up to around 30mph. The main issue is starting off being too quick. You barely have to move the power handle and the ammeter goes into the yellow section and the loco storms off, this is particularly obvious when light engine. This only affects things up to around 10mph and then it settles down and seems to perform very realistically. If you are on a rake of coaches I find it best just to ease the loco up to 10mph and then open it up. This doesn't ruin it for me though so I would give this area 8.5/10.
My overall rating is 8.5/10.
I am sure others will have different opinions but I think as it is priced at £7.99, I would highly recommend the loco.
If a BR Blue version could appear on Marketplace that would just finish things off nicely.

How nice to see an articulate, balanced and well reasoned review of a product that someone has actually purchased before passing comment.
So nice in fact, it has prompted me to post this

Oh now that is well special Mr Richard, i especially the connecting door's still in place, if you do release that is there any chance you could make the headcode box able to display the "domino" marker if it isnt already pretty please

What exactly is wrong with the green? I know very little of this era. And wouldn't paint change colour with the weather?

Re: DTG class 27
The green is just too pale for a mid-late 60's example, especially if you compare it to the shade that Dovetail have used on the recently updated Class 20 and probably nearly every other loco they have released. And while they have indeed made changes to the exterior model, they are not all improvements over the previous incarnation, the dropping of the bodyside windows being one of the more obvious.

Re: DTG class 27
Could someone who has the model please respond as to does the model come with snowploughs fitted as an option because if there is one class that did have them a lot of the time it was these

No ploughs as standard, I'm afraid. Not sure why it was decided to ditch them during the upgrade.

Re: DTG class 27
I like the look of the 27 really nice loco, now all we need is a class 26,they were used on the Southern for a while until the Cromptons Arrived, even the 27's were used south of the border,I have seen a Photo of one standing at Peterborough East waiting to depart on a Peterborough East - Leicester service in 1966.
weren't the 26's Mac Rats not the 27

Just the pre-1974 numbers at the moment Peter, to utilise the existing auto-numbering.749006 wrote:Will the numbers show 27xxx or is it just 54xx?
