Re: Marsdonshire route

Post by AlexFord »

I have posted this several times on this thread but it seems that some posters are not seeing it so here it is:

Just FYI. we are very pleased that so many of you are enjoying Marsdonshire and thank you for purchasing it. As I am sure you are aware we are here reading what everybody is saying and I wanted to say that issues that are reported will be looked into and where appropriate and able, will be addressed in a future update (no timescale yet!), but in the meantime please continue to enjoy Marsdonshire. I look forward to reading both your positive comments as well as any reports on issues. Thanks.

I will emphasise this section: "issues that are reported will be looked into and where appropriate and able, will be addressed in a future update (no timescale yet!)". I am not sure what else I can say.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

It's not a matter of use not seeing this message (In fact, I feel like I've memorized it word-for-word the amount of times you've posted it.) It's a matter of those core problems that are quite frankly, killing the enjoyment factor of this route. Well, my enjoyment to say the least.

Can I at least say one thing? Not to sound rude, but if the person/people doing the signaling and track work are struggling or maybe, don't know about it too much, then there's nothing wrong with them asking for some outside help here on UKTS, for example. I don't think of people who ask for help to be stupid or lazy. Not at all.

Dear Alex,

I have for sure seen this message, every time it has been posted.

I do hope the issues will be addressed and when they are, I will reconsider purchasing or not this route.

In the meantime, the existing issues have been just a little too much for me to spend my money on it now and so I decided to purchase from you another route instead (at full price even, just before you put it on sale! ;-) ), the great Three Country Corner Route.

Kind regards,

Alex,

I think the point about people mentioning problems with the route is,not that they are ignoring your oft repeated message. It's just that they wish to inform JT of problems that we "early adopters" identify as we continue use and learn about the route. The main ones seem to be signalling, lack of AI and tight curves.

In that spirit, here are a couple more to look at.

1. In the scenario Car Transportation, the scenario designer appears not to have read or to have mis-understood the JT manual for the Class 67 Advanced and Car transporters ? As they have set up the IPA transporter consist in such a way that the interactive flashing tail light will not function. See page 24 of the manual ! This is very easy to fix.

2. In the same scenario starting at the car factory, there appears to be a missing building or stranchions, as a couple of "KLP" signs are floating in the air next to the loco. There is a similar problem in several other locations e.g.s Dent Valley Racing Circuit and the approch to Port of Keane Docks.

3. For the Marsdonshire Rail liveried Class 166 and HST sets, the repainter seem to have omitted the alpha channel detail ( replacing them with blank white screens ) from the new textures. This of course makes the liveries lack shading and appear very shiney . The original alpha channel textures may of course have been omitted for copyright reasons, as the Just Trains copyrighted class 153 does have an alpha channel detail in it's MR livery. However surely it would have taken only a few minutes more work to produce new and original alpha channel textures for the other 166 and HST set MR repaints ?

I do hope that you appreciate that these issues are only mentioned so that they can be addressed at some point and thus improve what could turn out to be an excellent product.

Ben ,
Your post has me worried. If you can't find any "floaters", perhaps I have an earlier version of the route or I have some default scenery stock missing ?...However there has been no indication yet of any update from JT and after running the route through RWTools, it reports that there are no missing scenery items and yes my scenery settings are on the "Highest detail".

Here are some screenshots of floating signs.

The first is near the start loco position of Car Transportation( there are two floating KLP signs). The second is just as you climb out of the Military dock at Port of Keane, near the industrial units on the right. The third is just north of Dent Valley Station. There are others.

Let me know if you can find them, or perhaps let me know what scenery items they should be attached to if you can't.

regards

I have that asset ie Assets/Kuju/RailsimulatorUS/Scenery/Buildings/US_Factory_Grey.

I wonder why it does not show up in my route ? Also why RWTools does not show it as missing ?....I have confirmed that Kuju/ RailsimularorUS is checked in the world editor for Marsdonshire.

I can only think that JT have updated this route without saying anything ( they did that several times with the Class 20 Advanced ) ...when did you download your version , mine was downloaded on 1 June . If yours was after this date , I should probably redownload it ?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Springer 6, yes you are missing the US Asset pack. The route requires that as stated in the requirements. It can be purchased from the Steam store.

Alex ,

Yes I have always had the US asset pack ( I have just confirmed this with Steam ! ) Also I have the item US_Factory_Grey as mentioned by gonzo2431. Also the US Assets are ticked in the route . Also RWTools says there are no scenery items missing in my route . Very Strange ? .. Have JT added these items post 1 June 2014, which is when I bought the route ? I will try re-downloading and installing the route in case this was somehow glitched in the original download. This is not a big deal as I can always add the missing items ( or delete the "floaters") as and when I identify them.

However , I hope that you will address the IPA consist issue and the alpha channels for the MR 166 and HST set.

regards

Alex,
Yes It seems that it has not been updated. I have just re-downloaded and installed the route again, the scenario problems haven't changed and I am still missing some US assets ( even though I have them in my Assets folder and RWTools tells me they are not missing) I am not really sure what the problem is. The only next step would be to "Verify Cache" in case there has been some corruption of the US assets , but this is an extremely drastic step involving masses of work, better left until TS 2015 I think.
The funny thing is , I have never noticed any problem of missing assets in any of my many US routes !

Oddly, RW_tools should tell you every US asset is missing. It is inside, or should be inside a .ap file.
Unless you've purposely unpacked it.

Dave ,

I assume that the US scenery/building assets are in Kuju/RailsimulatorUS/Scenery/Buildings ? At least that is where my US_Factory_Grey .bin and GEOPCDX files are.

Now come to think of it, I don't think I have ever had an .ap file for Kuju stuff unlike later RSC downloads. I wonder if this is because I only rarely use the sim on line and so may have missed an update of these US Assets via an .ap file ?

If JT Marsdonshire is looking for assests in an .ap file it won't find them there , whereas RWTools finds them ok and reports them present when I do a route check?

Not sure if this theory is correct though and even less sure of what to do about it ?
