Swapping cabs between 2 similar trains

Post by danwatto »

RSC has some releases that are almost identical, except sometimes when a version comes out with a newer route they enhance it - but only for the variant with that route.

So the newer version may have a cab light, and a functioning DRA for instance but the old one is just non functional graphics for these buttons.

Is it feasible for me to just copy the cab folder over the top of the inferior version? Or will it just screw it up?

Also would this work between 2 different classes like class 465 and 466?
The 466 seems like the poor version e.g. the DRA is non-operational, where 455 does work.. ideally would like to replace the 466 cab with the better 455 cab and there are other cases like this..

Well, I have no idea about these things, but there's nothing stopping you from trying :D

Just make sure you have a backup of the original first!

I've just remembered that you may have to do some .bin editing.

Take a look into the .bin files in the cab folder and change filepaths and names where necessary.

Copying the folders Will likely result in a distorted view out of the windows, as the minimal amount of DRM in the game kicks in. You're probably better off editing the .bin file to point to the cab you prefer. Neither of these two methods are going to give you any enhancements that are in the scripting, so that's more .bin editing and lots of testing.

Have fun!!

My tests so far have been disastrous :(

Restored the backup...

Will just have to swap out the trains I don't like with RW Tools.
