Pacific Surfliner® LA-San Diego route - FREE!!

Post by Juanillo99 »

To celebrate National Train Day, Amtrak has partnered with Dovetail Games to create an exclusive offer:
The Pacific Surfliner® LA-San Diego route - FREE!!
:usa

We just have to access this page, fill in the fields, and DTG send a code within 48 hours to our email to obtain the route for free through the Steam client.

Hmmmmm, suspicious me is suspicious.

I get paranoid about things like this, and I'm just wondering why DTG haven't mentioned it on their FB page (Although I did see it on Reuters a short while ago) and also why the website is train-simulator.com as opposed to railsimulator.com.

Norton hasn't tested this site yet :-?

Train-simulator.com and railsimulator.com are the same website. What happens is which it uses both domains interchangeably.

Let's see what happens before rushing out. The offer says good till June 1. It's a shame we have to be so cautious. You know, if it sounds too good to be true....

Best,

In the terms and conditions is:
4. Applicants must enter their own name, and not that of anyone else. The Promoter reserves the right to request proof of identity and age in order to distribute free copies of ‘Train Simulator 2014 – National Train Day Edition’
which begs the question, "Is this a stand alone version (remember the NRM Flying Scotsman promotional offer?) or can we install the route/stock to our existing copies of the game?"

The website does state:-

...to download the Pacific Surfliner® LA-San Diego route for Train Simulator...

Therefore, to me, it seems as if the offer is an add-on route.
Asus Z97-K. Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4 GHz. 3GB NVidia EVGA GTX780Ti. 16GB DDR3 RAM. Sound Blaster Z. Windows 10 64 bit.
2x960GB SSDs, 3x2TB internal HDDs and 2x1TB & 1x2TB external HDDs.
Running TS @ 3840x2160 on a 4k TV.

Although it is a DLC "stand alone", it can equally be installed without problems to our existing copies of the game.

A different question is whether they will send the code to everyone who requests it.

PS: Anyway I can not welcome me to the offer, because I already bought the route when it was released.

Why announce it via Facebook? The intention is clearly to attract new customers to the brand and with a huge catalogue of DLC they can potentially sell they can well afford to give bits away for free. It's a well used marketing strategy.

I decided to fill in my name and use the same email I use for TS2014 and the next page said a code would be sent within a few days.

I will wait and see.

No code yet. I checked it and the virus scanner reports no risks. I think it is genuine but you must be very clever to discover the link.

If you scroll down railsimulators twitter feed (https://twitter.com/railsimulator) you come across them mentioning this offer so it is legit
