Orphaned Scenarios

Post by danwatto »

Hi All,

I had previously thought that any scenarios that are installed as part of DLCs or big scenario packs would not be listed if I don't own that route.

However I have two scenarios that still list, and when I run them they try to load the store "Port Road" but it never loads, like it doesn't exist or something.

The scenarios came with the Digital Traction class 50 that I purchased on Steam, they are:
[DT Class 50] Free Roam
[DT Class 50] Early Start

Why is it they appear there when I haven't bought The Port Road (and I can't find it on steam either!?), yet every other scenario pack, sound pack etc that has scenarios I've purhased elsewhere like Armstrong Powerhouse, or Just Trains will just hide the invalid scenarios so they don't mess up my list? I've tried verifying my files, then reinstalled my sound packs and still I see these invalid scenarios.

Second question - is there any easy way I can delete them from the list manually or change their name?

thanks

Your general assumption is correct, but in this case, I'm guessing that you own Western Lines of Scotland? That route is a development (and extension) of the original Port Road, and in fact it still uses the same Asset folder name.

So I assume as the path is the same, the scenario is interpreted by TS2104 as valid.

I suggest you move the relevant scenarios out of the Scenarios folder, or rename them (e.g. add _disabled_ to the beginning of the name (which is itself a long series of hex digits), so that it will jump to the top of the list but stand out as non-active.

You could delete the scenarios in scenario editor.

Yeah but I don't know how to use scenario editor :)
Can RW Tools delete scenarios?

Also I have union pacific big boy that is also orphaned. Was a USA route also removed/merged? It was a long time ago I got the big boy, and haven't used railworks for a while.

Yes, RWtools can delete the scenarios too. Open RWtools then into senarios, then edit scenario, select the route and then the scenario you want to delete and the click delete scenario............bingo!

RW Tools will not list scenarios for a route that doesn't exist; to be more precise, if there is no RouteProperties.xml file to be read which identifies the route then the whole folder is skipped.

The class 50 is from Mesh Tools (MT) and I believe those scenarios are for the original, freeware, incarnation of 'The Port Road' (Route GUID 00000010-0000-0000-0000-000000000000) which is no longer available on Steam but there is a version available here in the UKTS library:

Mmmmm.............good point that man, my mistake, I thought I read that it was showing in RWtools but that was a different thread regarding a JT route Bristol to Avonmouth I think, my apologies! The other good point which I think gptech makes is to install the Port Road v3 which is a great route, and then utilise the scenarios.

gptech, does this mean that they can't be deleted via the editor also?

Thanks for the help guys!

Just on the port road 3 - I already tried that and it doesn't work, crashes. I think it may conflict somehow with the new railworks or Western lines of Scotland?

Was anyone able to get it to work after the last updates?
If yes, I may give it another try and find out what mistake I made I. Installation..

Yes, without RouteProperties for a route the route and therefore any scenarios won't show in the ditor.
Instead, use NameMyRoute.exe in your Railworks folder to generate a list of routes with 'missing RouteProperties.xml' files and using the GUID given manually delete/move the folders out of the game:

Keep in mind that the new DTG routes are packed in .ap and also appear the report of 'missing RouteProperties.xml'.

I think the basics are covered in the above notes but I would clarify that as the scenarios are installed through Steam, they will be reinstated during a file refresh. Basically this is a configuration error in the setup routine for the Class 50 as the system doesn't normally install scenarios for routes you don't have. This is the only such circumstance I have come across and being one with a tidy mind I did find this this quite an irritant but over time I have learnt to live with it and apply my time to more satisfying activities!

One could drop a line to Railsimulator.com support but in all honesty it isn't a show stopper and I'm sure there are more significant things they (and we) would prefer to focus upon.

Yeah I agree it's a bit irritating having those strange scenarios sitting there.

Although for me it is also happening for the Union Pacific Big Boy, it's been a long time so I don't know what happened, maybe I purchased the Big Boy on sale but didn't have Sherman Hill, or maybe there was an old route that Sherman hill is based on that is no longer around?
