Which 101 Pack?

Post by xguerra »

I've been thinking of updating my Green class 101 reskin to work with one of the newer packs so later users can use it, plus it may prove useful on my next route.
I rather don't see any of the other colours from the original pack making a return anytime soon, which is annoying since my original skin was easy being based on the Regional Railways skin, so there were no complicated mapping issues or anything.

So which pack do most people own? - Having got both I can see small minor issues with both.

Do both; surely the textures aren't a million miles away from each other having essentially the same base?

Essentially they're not, but then doing versions for both runs havoc with scenarios.

That's kind of the point of this thread. I'm asking which of the two packs currently on sale is more popular with the community.

Xguerra,

I don't think it will matter which one you choose to do your reskin with.
What ever you do someone will still complain about having to make a purchase.

Timings/performance reasons? I'd argue against that; many are running scenarios with the newer versions swapped out for the original without bother.

I'd personally go with the second version.

No I hadn't. Although the skin I intended to port over isn't in that pack.

This is what I had in mind:

"And whilst you are away, a Diesel Railcar will do your work!".

I would go for the current version, but the mapping is different slightly I believe from that of the original DLC,

I've decided, after hours of trial and error, to use the Strathclyde 101, simply because it is 10x less fiddly than the BR one.
The problem with the BR pack is all the skins are dependant on each other, so for example the BR BlueGrey skin uses windows and some parts from the Blue skin. So to avoid having to do loads of geopcdx file mods, the Strathclyde one seems much more straightforward. It's one skin so is independent of anything else.

Well here it is so far:
Image

The Strathclyde variant means that I've gone down from having 9 issues to just 1, which you can see here:
Image

The Green stripe was originally white and bordered the black centre originally. I painted it green so it wouldn't show up but it does. Annoyingly the texture doesn't have an alpha channel so I can't make it invisible, and removing it from the geopcdx file crashes the game.

Any suggestions on how I may go about this are greatly welcomed. :D

Xavier,

To get rid of the line you need to set up an .lua script to turn the lining off in the .geo file - the node I think is Strip01.

Even so, I suspect it will still remain on the doors. To get rid of this will also get rid of the doors which is not ideal.

Richard
