Sound and Lights

What's going on with TS2014,the AI sounds and loco lights are pathetic !! We are forced to use third party sound packages (AP) to enhance sounds and even they vary with use and need to be re-installed after every update ! AI trains pass by with barely a murmur ! Rail networks are noisy places ! Loco lighting is also so feeble it's near impossible to see ahead with most trains in most scenarios. It's embarrasing when the TS series is costly enough when buying and building routes/stock etc and MSTS,a ten year old piece of software running in Open Rails gives a far more realistic feel in the areas mentioned ! Added to that the hundreds of freeware add-ons available from the MSTS back catalogue makes it all the more annoying that TS falls so short ! Wake up DG and give us the atmosphere we need to make the TS series a true simulation !

Train lights are not designed for the driver to see whats ahead, there designed so that whats ahead can see a train coming and move

try re-naming your Railworks folder to another name or make a copy and keep both, then updates will not overwrite files that you have changed, that what I do, then when I purchase new items they load into the Railworks folder and then I just copy them into my folder so nothing gets overwritten

I have to agree on the sound side of things; the default sounds on TS are pretty poor. I'm going to have to disagree with the lights however because:

This^^

Train lights are not meant to give you vision of the entire track ahead; they would have to be quite powerful for that and could dazzle other drivers. I remember one person talking about when he used to drive trains, and he said that as long as he could see what colour the next signal was he didn't care how visible everything else was! :)

You are Not Forced to use 3rd part sounds - it is a choice.
And there is a lot of Freeware add-ons available for TS2014 on this site and a lot more in Europe and the US.

There was this chap complaining about the sounds on Open Rails as well so maybe it's not just TS2014.

I can see where the OP is kinda coming from, they don't seem to care much about the sounds when creating new loco dlc & for a so called `train simulator` this is surprising, mind you it makes for good business for AP!

As for having to re-install the sound packs after each update, what I do is install all my AP soundpacks to a folder, not directly into the game & I just copy the contents of the folder across to my ts2014 install whenever I need to re-install the files, takes a few seconds to do.

I can remember a thread where the originator was complaining that the AWS 'ding' and horn were too loud, and it annoyed his other half when she was trying to watch telly.....
I don't think there's much argument that sounds are a weak area in the game, how weak and how bothersome is a personal thing--some complain a lot, some just get on with it.

You'd be better off telling them via e-mail or Facebook, pointless telling us lot.

Maybe true in UK, certainly not true globally.

I think train lights here in NZ have high and low beam just like a car. I have actually seen them being dipped when they approach a crossing at night as not to blind motorists.

In response to "749006" who posted a link to a comment I made on the Open Rails section regarding sound issues. That post was submitted in March 2013 and at the time there were some major issues with sounds when running MSTS via OR but it's more than a year on and the sounds are now excellent ! I can only comment on what I experience at the time !
