Well, were sure glad you do Rich and no mistake!
Seconded. AP sound are as close as you can get to the real thing without being there. I don't buy locos from any source now until they've been given the AP treatment.

For an authentic driving experience then sounds are far more important to me than an exquisite exterior model.
Thirded. I only buy Diesels now if there is an AP sound pack; for me it's the sound that brings the experience to life more than graphics, giving a feeling of power, weight and momentum.
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz,
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 3072MB
Motherboard: Intel Z68 (Socket 1155), 8MB DDR3 RAM. On-board Sound
Windows 7 64
I Mean, that should do it?

You're spot on there.

With AP you don't just get a roughly recorded engine sound but you get everything from traction motor hum, bogie run sounds, track joints accurate to the number of wheels, vibration, rattles, wind noise, separate in-cab & external engine noise both recorded professionally, 2-tone accurate horn (all custom for each loco, no generic horn), custom recorded clunks and clicks of levers and switches, the list goes on.

Where the AP magic lies however is in the application of the sounds to convince the mind and increase immersion. That's the whole name of the game with simulation. Each sound doesn't just play on a loop, they respond to your inputs. It completely transforms locos from a flat, unrealistic experience to a sensational immersion that is mesmerising.

There appears to be post on the Steam forums from DTG clarifying the policies that apply to the recently released Class 14.

Now this is an interesting development. DTG standing their ground on their policies which is good, at least they care much more about the products they provide now.

Well there we go. Suddenly the prospect of these (and many other products with the same ancestry) has become much more appealing. :)

How do people who own this model feel about its haulage/acceleration capabilities?

Nice to know, that is all I'll say as we don't want the topic getting locked but fair to say we are all thinking the same thing(s).

So, with regards to DTG stating that normal policies apply, are we free to make reskins/sound packs? Not that I'd be skilled enough to make a sound pack however :)

I think you are free to do whatever you wish, as long as you comply with the EULA,

Regards,
I just needed to double check that since someone on the Steam forums made a comment regarding this, but I guess all evidence suggests that DTG wear the trousers on this one.

I was given the impression that if I attempted to make a reskin for the Class 14 I would get kicked in the [very sensitive male region] repeatedly then have money taken away from me.

Thanks for clearing that one up,

Regards,

Glad to see my hearing isn't completely up the wall if others notice the difference between a real 14 and the recorded sounds. I'll also jump aboard the "praise Richard" bandwagon since the AP team really does push RailWorks's sound technology beyond it's limits!

Excellent that DTG has given a defining statement. I hope that soon we'll see an NCB Teddy Bear absolutely caked in coal dust. I like my shunters as I like my partners after all. ;)

After DTG confirmed their policy, I decided to buy it. Nice little loco however I seem to have an issue with the sounds - It's almost as if they cut out every 10 seconds. Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Johnny

I see DTG has changed the specs of this Class 14 by stating it has only the green livery and not the BR Blue as was advertised when I purchased this DLC
Not too happy about that.
Same here...
Rather have an update than a refund ;-)
Just had a reply from DTG acknowledging and apologising for the mistake they made, also that they are working on a solution that they will distribute by Steam as soon as it is available.

That's better :)

I'm generally more of a steam guy, but having driven several of these locos, they are among the few diesels I have got a soft spot for!!!

I have to say the model is excellent, and the physics are pretty close to reality... only one minor criticism... who was playing with the harmonica when they recorded the horn noises????
Slowly working on the "Isle of Man Network"!!!

I used to be like you! Vehemently a fan of Big Four and BR steam, but I've really started warming up to BR Green and early BR Blues. Slowly giving into the clag... not surprised as that's all I seem to be working on when I'm down in the workshop at the RSR!
