Just a simple question about "Newcastle to York Modern"

Hi people,

Firstly, I have to say I am really disappointed in "Just Trains" so-called support; I emailed the following question to them not once but twice, and despite getting an "auto acknowledgement email" no-one ever bothered replying to my query. Odd when it was a sales enquiry.

I then posted the question on their (apparantly dead) Just Trains sub-section of the Just Flight forum, but this has support questions still unanswered from 2012! .............. Very poor IMHO.

My question is simply ;-

Does the "Newcastle to Yprk Modern" product, sold by Just Trains, install into TS2014 and work ok? ........ In other words is it compatible with TS2014?

I'd be really grateful if anyone can confirm this for me. 8)

Dave.

I can't say anything about the installation because I bought my copy before its introduction but it will work with this version so I'd be surprised if it didn't install properly.

If you look at the bottom of the detailed description it tells you what it needs to work correctly,

"The Newcastle to York Modern route requires that the default Newcastle to York route is installed for Rail Simulator. This route is supplied with the European versions of Rail Simulator, but US users may have to purchase and install this route separately."

No disrespect intended - but that just tells me that I need the default (70s) Newcastle to York installed - it doesn't tell me at all whether the product works with TS2014 ?

This is what keeps happening you see - people answer different questions to the one I ask :) ..... I know that the default Newcastle to York line is required for the "Modern" product to work........... what I don't know, is whether the "Modern" product actually installs and works with TS2014, and (for example) not just TS2012 or older Railworks versions.

Can anyone just confirm - yes, if you buy "Newcastle to York Modern" it installs and works with TS2014"........ or "No, it no longer works with TS2014" ?

Forgive my frustration.

Hello I have the Just Trains Newcastle - York modern route and it installs and works fine with TS2014. Just make sure you go in the support section of the Just Trains website and download the service packs for it. And that you have the RSC Newcastle - York route from steam if your a new user.

Yes, it works, so long as you have the other required items.

If you are looking for an alternative Newcastle to York 'modern' route, may I direct you to the DPS East Coast Mainline North East route available on Steam Workshop? :

You do require the GEML route as well as the original route. The revamp is first class and I can confirm it works fine in TS2014 :) .

Hope this helps,

Dave,

It works in my copy of TS2014, but I got TS2014 by a series of upgrades from RailSimulator through all subsequent versions of TS201x. If you have had no previous versions and only ever have had TS2014 I can't answer your question as the route may depend on assets that aren't available in the 'out of the box' version of TS2014.

A free alternative is Darren Porter's 'East Coast Mainline - North East' which is available on the TS2014 Steam Workshop (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =197472742). It requires the original ECML and the GEML addon. I think it's better than the Just Trains offering which was also Darren's work but is looking its age now against more recent routes.

It is indeed excellent. I wish Darren would finalise it I've got a few scenarios waiting in the wings for it!

Confirm that it installed and works fine in TS2014 for me. Always had good support from JT in the past.

To be honest I'd actually recommend the DP Simulations workshop version (even though he was the guy who made the original route too) as it's much more nicer but it does require the GEML.

I too would recommend going for Darren's enhancement over the JT "Modern" route. An awful lot has changed since the original came out and it looks very dated now, particularly as the developers have learned how to make the most of easement curves and we've (finally) had superelevation implemented.

Hi guys,

THANK YOU! ...for all the help. And omnce again, forgive my impatient.

Thanks for the recommendation for the free East Coast Mainline. I do indeed have GEML, so the DPS East Coast route should work ok.

Just one thing - **Newbie alert!** ..... I cannot see on the item's page in the Workshop where I download the route?.... Is it the "Subscribe" button? ... because I pressed that but I cannot find the route within TS2014 when I open it.

Is any manual action required to get the workshop routes and scenarios working in TS2014 ?

Many thanks

Yep.

It appears as "[DPS] East Coast Mainline - North East", but doesn't have any "standard" scenarios included. It is, however, quick-drive enabled, so you should be able to check that it's up and running by throwing together a quick-drive activity.

HTH,

Rik.

EDIT: P.S. this route doesn't have s/e either, but does look much, much better than the original.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you don't appear to have had a reply from the Support team - did you get the automated ticket numbers back from your requests? Our support team do (or should) reply to all messages, so I'd have expected they have replied and possibly the email may have bounced or gone to spam/junkmail for some reason if you didn't get it in your inbox.

As for the route, it will work in TS2014 if you had TS2012 as there are default objects that are required and have since been removed in TS2013/TS2014. If you only have TS2014 and not the earlier 2012 version, then you'll need various bits and pieces including the old original Newcastle to York (1970/1980s version), along with the Foliage Pack, US Content Pack, and EU content pack - we believe those latter packs are included with some outer route DLC from Steam such as WCML North, so if you've got an add-on like that, then you've probably got those "default assets" already.

Thanks,

Simon
