I wonder if anyone will feel its worth retro-fying that release given DT's upcoming Plymouth-Penzance route, which looks like it will reach Exeter eventually.

At this rate DT will be rebuilding Swindon Works and will relocate given their (admirable and much-to-be-encouraged) projects linked to God's (W) Railway.

I know. But they are not the same system at all. Yes, they both do the same thing but they are not the same thing. A wind turbine and a nuclear powerstation do the same thing, but you'd be hard pressed to say they were the same thing.

I know some stock was fitted with both AWS and ATC.

One significant difference is that AWS gives the driver 2.7 seconds to respond before applying a full emergency brake application. ATC, being mechanical, would open the brake pipe immediately and start applying the brakes regardless of the driver's response. On a vacuum-fitted train, the brake application is considerably slower than air brakes, so this would actually aid the driver (as he would be about to apply the brakes anyway.) He would, however, be able to cancel the warning and then blow the brakes off, if necessary.

are all fitted with the modern AWS & TPWS display and the others from my list aren't.
I know the TPWS in ts2014 won't work but we could at least have the buttons?

The only ones that don't have the safety features are 4073,4079 and 5080 as they ran in the 80's/90's - or atleast before OTMR was introduced and possibly before or around the time of TPWS being brought in. The rest of the class have run mainline since since then.

I myself am thoroughly looking forward to Edgcumbe. She is a great example of the class, a great example of mainline steam at it's best and the class just look great with hawksworth tenders
