Some very intriguing shots from an area I know nothing about - but I eagerly anticipate learning about it and savouring the sights (and sounds!) Thanks to Ben and SSS.
One of the most beautiful scenic sections of any route free or otherwise is to my eyes, the section of the CKPR through the Greta gorge and over the bow stringing bridges between Keswick and Threlkeld. in fact I'm going to pay a revisit today and who knows may be get some scenario inspiration!

Just need to get eyore to finish something he started tinkering with a good while ago that resembled a chou-fleur..

New Stainmore Blog Post:

http://stainmorerouteproject.blogspot.c ... -line.html

Ben tells us about the history of Hartley Quarry, east of Kirkby Stephen. We also take the opportunity to share a few images from the WIP route, featuring Phil's fantastic buildings for the quarry, and Ben's lovely scenery work.

@ Matt

I see that Phil has managed to get his vegetation to undulate, did he know that the Czech Railworks people have also done this and included them in their freely available vegetation and tree packs on their website, if it would assist him in seeing how they've done it, he might pick up some tips.

Thanks Steve. As you can see from the second blog post linked, we have our own working version of that now. Thanks for pointing it out anyway.

Oh Dairy Me!!

Read a new Stainmore Blog post about a new development at Appleby. Also one of the great route building challenges - having in front of you a photograph and trying to recreate it in!

That dairy is on the Settle & Carlisle, not Stainmore!

Traffic went to Cricklewood.

But the blog states that the dairy was on the Settle and Carlisle line! The point is that the dairy could be seen from the Stainmore line.

Wonderful attention to detail! Will this route be distributed through DTG/Steam?

Yes but very clearly visible from the Eden Valley, as stated in our blog post.

From the blog:
Another curiosity is the absence of a cross-over, which suggests the dairy may have been within Station Limits of Appleby West box – answers on a postcard as I can’t locate a signalling diagram!
According to Fox and Anderson's Stations and Structures of the Settle-Carlisle Railway "A ground frame (Appleby West ground frame) consisting of five levers, was released from Appleby West signal box" and it includes a signalling diagram with the ground frame shown. Hope that helps!

There was no need for a crossover. As I said previously, the traffic went to Cricklewood.

It was attached to through trains on weekdays and was a scheduled service of its own on Sundays.

A representation of this dairy (I won't say "model") already exists on two different TS routes of the Settle & Carlisle.
