Do not judge the livery on these pictures they are renders, no more. However, I believe the livery, once in game, will be one of the best you'll see! 8) However, even in the days of steam, there were many variations on BR Green. We're never going to get the perfect green, as there's no such thing!

Cheers everyone!

You get this kind of debate on all vehicle forums. What colour is the right one for such and such a model? Usually, the answer is to get as close as you can.

What people forget is that paint was supplied by outside firms in batches so they will have from varied one to another and, let's remember, the finish wasn't one coat of Dulux but a build-up many under-, top- and lacquer-coats so I have no doubt at all that what came out of, say, Crewe wouldn't always match what came out of Derby, never mind Swindon or York. The coaching stock would have the same variations.

For me, I think too many models in TS014 are too matt. The finish was always gloss on steam and diesel locos (with the possible exception of the Austerity 2-8-0 which always seemed to be painted with dirt in the workshops!) and it only went matt as grime built up. A ex-works loco should shine. A weathered one increasingly less so and with a consequential loss of clarity on any lining and similar small detail.

Indeed, but the problem is that anything shiny in TS with a strong alpha channel often doesn't look right either, because in my opinion, the graphics engine makes them look "wet", rather than intrinsically shiny. It's all about striking a balance to try and hit the sweet spot - a medium grey alpha usually does the trick. Incidentally, modern motoring games seem to do a particularly excellent job of rendering a shiny surface, which I guess is down to the industry standard expertise of the artists and the graphics engine employed.

For anyone interested, the green is about as authentic as it gets: it's RAL 6007 or as Brian mentioned, "Deep Bronze Green". Different manufacturers seem to have slightly different green/olive balances, and I think we've gone for a more green biased one. In game, I've used the shade on one unreleased new steam loco and it looks absolutely fantastic, as the Scot will also do when it's exported. :)

Genuinely excited about this one as it's one of my favourite kettles ;-)

Hope there are some truly filthy examples too so as to satisfy us strange types that like to model the steam to diesel transitional era where locos seldom got a wash and brush-up.

I may be doing the model a disservice but from the SSS photo it looks like the return crank is almost vertical at bottom dead centre, it should be well forward at BDC on both sides to impart motion to the expansion link. There have been several models like this which don't look quite right, in fact the RSC 8F had the return crank leaning totally the wrong way on one side, something explained by just using the same image reversed to save modelling time. The photo shows unrebuilt Scot 6160 but the rebuilds were much the same.

Looking good, fine locos, a stalwart of the Thames Clyde Express. Used to see them at Leeds, where they changed engines.

A significant moment today, as the 'Scot' is in-game, as a functioning locomotive for the first time!!
