Google Earth Overlay Working?

Post by pjt1974 »

Anybody else found thier Google Earth overlay not working today?

I used it fine last night but nothing showing on the route this afternoon when pressing Ctrl + G. The blue loading circles show for a second then disappear but no overlay shows up.

I have a Google API key installed, I deleted the Blueprint .pak files and restarted my pc but still no overlay's.

I'm on quite a high graphics setting and tried to lower it to see if it was rescource related but it wasn't.

Could someone check to see if thier's is working so I know whether it's a problem with me or Google Wide. It could be a return to good old RW-Decal for me!!!!

Have exactly the same problem.

All was working last night, but this morning I have the same symptoms. I get a brief flash of the blue google earth circle symbol, but no image overlayed.

Only logged onto this forum for some light relief as I have have just spent the last half hour in reloading backup routes just in case something had happened to my current route.

So, don't worry, it looks like to be some problem at Google's end and nothing to do with our computers.

Still down though here in the States. Funny how such a feature would turn you on your ear when suddenly not available.
Cheers!

Still not working for me at 1 am (in England).

Just hope that Google have not "improved" it so that we can no longer easily use the overlay.

I really missed it today, would be very sorry to have to go back to using marker files !

I guess that shows just how good a feature it is. It is largely unobtrusive bit you miss it when it's gone.

I am not quite sure why I can still get the overlay and others cannot. I do spend most of my building time offline from Steam (but still connected to the internet) and I generally only do a full verify when there have been significant updates. Being offline does not stop me from getting the GM overlay and I still get the current loading screen Top Tips and any new promotions, so this information seems to be getting into the game independently of Steam.

Perhaps this is a Firewall matter and for some reason individual computers are not letting the GM Overlay information through.

I use the Windows Security systems including Microsoft Essentials but other virus software may be blocking the data ... but I am no expert and just guessing :D

I had the same problem yesterday but on going into settings and then Google Maps Overlay Settings I noticed the field for Google Maps API Key was blank. I re-inserted the key and all was well immediately. If you need to re-access your key information go to https://developers.google.com/maps/docu ... t/tutorial

Mines not working either.

Tied a new API key, restart PC, tried different overlay types etc... but nothing.

I only noticed yesterday evening that it wasn't working. It was as though a switch was flicked somewhere to stop it... for me at least any. I've emailed RS support so hopefully they can sort it out.

Cheers,

Tim

I've even tried generating and inserting a new API key but it still doesn't work. I noticed that Darren Porter has had problems aswell over the past day or so hampering his ECML rebuild but he is now reporting it back working today.

Back to old skool last night with Jim's RW-Decal.

Hooray ! Have solved the problem.

I tried generating and entering a new API key which didn't work.

It turned out that I had turned on "Google Maps API" and not "Static Map Service" which I needed.

Something must have changed at Google's end though, for the problem to appear on different computers.

Can confirm this for me also, wasn't working and now is. Where you administer your Google API console, click on services and scroll down to Static Maps API and switch this to ON, all works fine for me now but this seems to indicate that an API key is mandatory for the plugin to work from now on.
