Also worth mentioning that the Class 90 can brake thru a Neutral section without losing breaking power when the VCB trips.yyyyamst wrote:Peter,........
Just to add that any AC Locos (other than Class 86/87s) it is in order to make any degree of Brake application through Neutral Sections with no adverse effects. With the Auto Brake being applied you should see your Gauges showing the Train Brake reduced and the Traction Motor Needles reading in the green. As you pass over the first set of APC Magnets the VCB opens which isolates the 26000kv supply to the Loco. At this point the Traction Motor Needles drop to zero and the Loco Boggie Brake Gauges will compensate by making a corresponding application. Once the Loco passes over the second set of APC Magnets the VCB resets. The Loco Boggie Brake reading will drop to zero and the Traction Motor Needles will rise into the green to indicate the Rheo Brake on the Loco has re established. This does not apply to the Class 86/87s. In general Drivers avoid brake applications going through Neutrals as this can produce a slight jolt and sometimes the Rheo and Boggie Brakes can be super imposed together. Class 92s are completely different but that's something to watch for when the add on pack is released
