[justsayinglike] An advert caught my eye when I opened this site tonight...
It was the banner ad for the JT 4MT ADVANCED. Blimey, it really struck me, how a group of developers are really pushing the envelope with this sim. The progress with locos over the last 12 months + has been phenomenal. Advanced scripting, improved particle effects, high res skins, sound effects that really "put you there"... and after all, any sim is about immersion, "suspension of disbelief".
There have been numerous positions above "for vs against" Exeter-Paignton & RSC. Let's just say, some route developers deserve the same accolades as the above rolling stock devs.
For all those folks contending that RSC are / are not cranking the handle - just ask - are they really "pushing the envelope"???
(BTW - a tide and weather sim would be pushing the envelope...!)

It's the conspiracy part I'm not getting. You don't seriously think that we're all in cahoots, plotting our next flash-mobbing in smoke-free invitation only user-groups, do you? And anyway, it's not a theory at all, it's conjecture.gptech wrote: errr...

And you need to read less (into what others have written)... I didn't state I'd never seen the expression before, just that it intrigued me.1S811985 wrote:If it's really the first time that you've ever encountered those words being conjoined in such a way then you need to read more.
Though there is a long tradition of doing just that in these forums, probably in real life too.

Well I don't see the relevance of that to the topic at hand at all, sorry. If you're going to pepper your contributions with random insights into your thinking process then you shouldn't be surprised if people don't quite follow your meaning.gptech wrote: I didn't state I'd never seen the expression before, just that it intrigued me.
I stated that that there was "almost universal disappointment" being expressed with the apparent length of this new route and with the screenshots that have been seen thus far too. I can rephrase it if you like (the balance of opinion, the majority response, nine out of ten cats..) but I stand by the assessment and I'd challenge anyone to have a glance at this forum, Facebook etc and reach a different conclusion.

"Almost universal"-a bit like "almost unique".

Yeah, I'll concur on this one..
From the WIP shots someone who knows the area well has highlighted flaws, I doubt anybody could model any area that a local wouldn't be able to pick fault with, and I'm with the majority (for a change) in feeling that for a short, iconic and well photographed stretch the finished product must be of as high a standard as we can reasonably expect. All we need to do now is define "reasonably".
but surely you have to see, that at least in part, that such a conclusion could be reached because of unfounded negative conjecture/theorising.1S811985 wrote: but I stand by the assessment and I'd challenge anyone to have a glance at this forum, Facebook etc and reach a different conclusion.

Well let's see how many they sell as opposed to 10 to 20 people on here making pejorative statements and thinking they are Dovetails only customers!
It hasn't even been released and people are casting aspersions on its quality and the business ethics of the producer!
A lot of people probably look to this forum for a balanced and calm review and discussion on future releases!

I certainly do, and with one exception, I have seen nothing in this thread that makes me think a newbie would be short changed if that's what they came here expecting to see. Despite what some might like you to think, threads on RSC/DG releases can be on the whole positive (the A4 being an example).theorganist wrote:A lot of people probably look to this forum for a balanced and calm review and discussion on future releases!
Like I have said above, I will be waiting to see what the final release is. But on the balance of what I have seen so far, I will probably pick this one up in a sale. I suppose that makes me a glass half empty kind of guy
