Disk Write Error
Trainsim 2014 has stopped working on my computer following the latest update. the game wont start, displaying the following message "An error occurred while updating Train Simulator 2014 (disk write error). I'm trying to find a solution on Steam support as suggested by the the error message. Does anyone know the solution as I'm not having much success so far. I have to say I am really annnoyed after the fiasco updating to TS2014 it had been running well, I hope this is not a sign of things to come from DG.

Re: Disk Write Error
I had this too, fixed it with verify cache.

Re: Disk Write Error
This has become quite a common error of late and as holzroller has stated, running the verify routine to re-build 'permissions' has been known to work, but I'd suggest moving Steam and the game out of the protected Program Files directory (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... -YUBN-8129)driverden wrote:An error occurred while updating Train Simulator 2014 (disk write error)
What fiasco?...the update was very smooth for the majority of users.driverden wrote:I have to say I am really annnoyed after the fiasco updating to TS2014 it had been running well, I hope this is not a sign of things to come from DG.
As a disc write error could very easily be an issue with your hardware or your configuration it's a little early to blame Dovetail don't you think?

Re: Disk Write Error
Thanks for the replies, I'm reluctant to do a verify at the moment due to the number of files that would have to be reinstalled after the verification. I have a recent backup that might be a better option and then run in offline mode. GPTech I made clear that the problem was with the installation on my computer but I did have a lot of trouble with the update to 2014 despite help from RSC support. I understand it was connected with Flash Player.

Re: Disk Write Error
It just happened to Chris.
He had the blueprint editor open whilst the update was happening so of course it couldn't update BlueprintEditor2.exe.
He just closed the editor and ran the game, the update started again from the point it failed at.

doesn't say 'I know it's possibly just on my machine'driverden wrote:I have to say I am really annnoyed after the fiasco updating to TS2014 it had been running well, I hope this is not a sign of things to come from DG.
Arguments aside, the flash player errors (as far as I can remember) were due to a 64bit PC not having the correct 32bit version of Flash installed, a 'six of one and half a dozen of the other' debate as to whether Macromedia or RSC were to blame there. It should have been resolved by running the Flash installer that comes with the game--have you tried this?
Can't say I blame you, but as you have a backup already of your assets and routes you might as well run the verify or move the game and then copy your edited stuff back in. That way you get all the new goodies and keep your edits.driverden wrote:I'm reluctant to do a verify at the moment due to the number of files that would have to be reinstalled after the verification

Re: Disk Write Error
I followed the Steam advice on the Help link:
Shut down Steam.
Go to your main Steam directory.
Delete the folder "appcache" (I would keep a backup of this folder somewhere safe for now).
Restart PC, load up steam and attempt to play RW - it should then start the update again and see it all the way through to the end.

Re: Disk Write Error
Thankyou for the replies, I'm afraid most of them didn't work. I finally had to bite the bullet and verify, 1427 files had to be reaquired. At the moment I am doing a full backup of the Steam folder having gone offline while I reinstalled files. Regarding my problems updating to TS2014 on my computer, despite doing all the things advised by RSC support it would not run until I found by accident that by going offline and turning the router off it ran. It was finally resolved by an update from RSC on the 3rd of October. I am reluctant to change the default location as when I tried it previously it seemed to create more problems with other software.
Re: Disk Write Error
For what it's worth...
... I had the 'disk write error' message yesterday.
Not being able to face yet another 'verify' - and certainly not on an Assets/Content collection focussed on Scottish & Irish routes only - I (a) closed down Utilities and RW_Tools, (b) restarted my PC, and (c) swapped to another instance of Assets and Content folders (I split my routes on a broadly geographical basis, with assets to suit each group...).
Not sure which of these actions cleared the error state, but cleared it was.
Having cleared the error state, I was able to swap back to the Assets/Content collection that I'd been using when I triggered the error flag.
Kind regards,
John M

Re: Disk Write Error
Yep, had same here too
And no sound at all. Closed down Steam, restarted PC and luckily all back up and running. Updated graphics drivers on Sunday and thought I had broken it

Re: Disk Write Error
PETER1974 resolved what may be a related issue by moving Steam out of C:\Program Files... http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1676575
Might be worth considering yourselves.
Might be worth considering yourselves.
Moving Steam shouldn't impact anything other than the games within the Steam directories, other than of course RW Tools in which you'd need to re-enter the path to Railworks.exe. What other programs gave you bother Dennis?driverden wrote:I am reluctant to change the default location as when I tried it previously it seemed to create more problems with other software.
