br103 VR Version - getting it going.

Post by chrisreb »

Sfter 40 mins trying the manual start up procedure I gave up with that - the descriptions don't seem to match the key to the guages etc.

Tried the automatic start up which seemed to work. However no throttle inputs seem to register so I simply cannot get this thing moving. Most discussions on the forum seem to relate to the Vizzart version and not this one.

Have I missed something?

Thanks

The only thing that caught me out was the compressor.
If there is not enough air pressure the pantograph wont raise.
(but you get a message telling you this)
The manual says press shift and ; but I found it to be shift and '

Hi Dave

With Auto start up (which worked when I sorted out which of the conflicting keys described was the correct one!) the pantograph is raised ok.

Brakes are all off so mystified. Am downloading again and re installing to make sure I have correct version. Never had a loco that simply would not work in any mode.

Keys A and D make controller work ok but nothing happens at all.

Reinstall didn't help . Looks like I wasted my money as I having spent a couple of hours on this I am out of time to fiddle around any more unless anyone has any tips.

Which one do you have, Ill do a quick auto start up and see if theees a key Im just pressing out of habit that I cant remember
Ive got all 4
Red short
TEE
Lufthansa
Red Long

Dave

Edit just tried the long version
After auto start up, all I needed to do was release the brakes and then accellerate

Edit again,
The only other thing I can think of is that you may be using the mouse.
When releasing the brakes with the keyboard, 2 levers move at once, so if doing the levers with the mouse make sure both are released?

Other than that I cant see an issue, Ive successfully driven all four variants, not that that helps you in any way :)
One last thing and Im sorry if it sounds patronising, you are on an electrified section of track aren't you?
Remember that with this new style of catenary being used, the existence of overhead wires doesn't not automatically indicate track is electrified.
Sections of GEML have catenary but electric locos will not move as the track is not defined as having power.

I have Orot version.

On 3 Country Corner Route under electrified wires. Will re try using the keyboard in case I used the mouse. The only other thing I can try is placing the loco on another route.

Will look at later today

Thanks

It's quite an easy loco to drive but you need to use the Keyboard instead of the mouse.

Ctrl+Z and it starts automatically.
The PZB is isolated by default - I would not switch it on until you get used to driving the loco.

Use the [;] to release the brakes then the [A] to take power- Make sure the F3 HUD is showing - it tells you with notch you are in.
If you hold the A key in for too long it will notch up fast and overload so keep the needle in the Red section.
When you are approaching the speed you want to travel at use the [D] to reduce the power so you are in notch 6 or 7 which should keep the train moving at that speed.

Apply the brakes with the ['] key to slow down.
I think the brakes lap at
4.7,
4.5,
4.2,
4.0,
3.7,
3.5
and emergency.

Well tried a few more times and eventually got going. However after a short time the engine cut out. After a while it responded to controls again. Pulling out of the next stop fine then got to about 30kph and it cut out again and is non reponsive.

My post crossed with yours Peter.

So far cannot agree it is easy to drive :-?

Will wait in case something needs to reset or start the scenario for one last try before consigning this one to the bin.

Don't bother with a scenario for now have a go with a Quick Drive.

You do have to be careful when taking power because if you overload the loco it will trip out.
have a look at page 14 of the manual 6.4 Electrical faults.
Page 16 has a full list of Keyboard shortcuts.

Hi,

dont give up, the loco is one of the best out there for TS. The manual startup procedure works exactly as described in the manual. Just be sure your doors are closed or the loco will not go. You need to do it manually by pressing shift+t...

Well after a couple more cut outs of power completed a scenario.

I just wish it were more obvious where the issues were. Gauges well under half way for load - no more than notch 15 at any time.

Agree a beautiful loco when it is going, just very frustrating at times.

Thank you to all for you guidance today to keep me plugging away.

Regards to all and have a great weekend

Actually I have found that it drives fine using the regular HUD1 (after using CTRL+Z for auto start up). The issue, as mentioned previously, is to make sure that acceleration is controlled to avoid overloading (keep the needle in the red zone). The Class 86 has a similar overload function if you try to accelerate too hard from a standing start.

An interesting case of "lost in translation" . . . It says "Auto Startup Procedure is Terminated", LOL! It means, of course, that it is *completed*, but I was searching around thinking something must have gone wrong to terminate it!

German english is not the best :D But the term is not that wrong but incomplete. Schould be "completed and terminated" ^^. Because the procedure can be run only once. And please, don't drive that sweety with the fisher price knobs. That's disgusting.

I am suitably embarrassed re: Fisher Price knobs. But unrepentant :)

But I beg to differ - I appreciate that the nuances of language are subtle, but to say that a process is "terminated" really implies (or is interpreted as meaning) that it was ended prematurely, and not fully completed. It would be better to say is is completed. But not a big deal, in fact I thought it was amusing :)

The only problem I found was looking thru the manual and one of the Keyboard functions requires the pressing of a character found on a German keyboard - ß

Don't know if that will work - looks like a capital B but is Capital sharp S

I believe that there was a slight mix up with the key table and the English manual due to time constraints. The loco brake keys should be [ ] not the sharp S and comma. Likewise auto set up is ctrl Z. Compressor on should be shift ' . Help system on/off shift [ , change message level ctrl [
