Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
I was hoping I could replace the default 390 Inter City skin with the Virgin one on here, but when I do this I just get a ghost train. Cab works, but there's nothing outside. What am I doing wrong?

Dunno, but if you post just how you've gone about it we might be able to spot what you've missed.andynwt wrote:What am I doing wrong?

Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
I presume you are talking about UKTS 22899 updated to v3.2?
You don't overwrite anything that is already there. Per the instructions, you *clone* the GNER folder in full, rename the new one VT, and then copy the new UKTS package into that folder, overwriting as necessary. The instructions don't suggest touching the IC folder at all, though I would imagine you'd get the same result if you cloned that folder instead.
Either way, you retain all the existing versions and create a new, additional, Virgin Trains version. I have it successfully installed and working, in fact I swapped out an IC 390 on the WCML to check it.
Also consider UKTS 30150 - creating a QuickDrive for the Virgin Class 390, and UKTS 31328, lighting modification for the Class 390 (not specifically VT)

Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
I think he wants to change the default intercity skin to the VT one, so that the default scenarios will feature only the virgin trains pendolino.
Andy, I think you will need to edit the bin files for this to work. copy and pasting isn't enough for repaints. you need to tell the sim that it needs to look for a different filepath through editing a few lines in the file. alternatively you could just change all the VT texture filenames to their intercity counterparts to save the trouble.
someone on these forums was successful in doing this a few years ago, but I cant remember who.

Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
I've done it recently myself, no editing of files necessary.
I am assuming you already have the Virgin reskin successfully installed?
As always, back up beforehand and edit at your own risk
1. Navigate to railworks\Assets\S9BL\Class390AddOn\RailVehicles\Electric\Class390 - you should see a list of folders; CommonScripts, Default, GNER, IC, LMS, VT
2. Create a copy of the VT folder - mine is named Virgin Textures Overwrite
3. Open this newly created folder and delete everything except for the folders DMSO, MFO, Passenger View and PTFO
4. Open each of these folders in turn and delete everything except for the folders named textures
5. Go back to the folder containing the DMSO, MFO, Passenger View and PTFO folders - select and copy all of these
6. Now go back another step to the folder containing CommonScripts, Default, GNER, IC, LMS, VT
7. Open the IC folder and paste in the folders you have just copied - when prompted to merge/overwrite select Yes
This should mean that any scenario calling the IC liveried 390 will now show a Virgin livery, and selecting an IC liveried vehicle in the Scenario Editor likewise produce a Virgin one
Hope this helps

Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
Two posts touching upon three ways of changing the Intercity 390 to the Virgin one.....as I wrote earlier, we need to know just what's been attempted in order to give useful instructions.
Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
I think it should be possibly by copying just the texture folder (and letting it overwrite) but keeping the .bin files etc unchanged.
I'm not fat - I'm easy to see

(all i had done was try and copy the stuff from the VT folder into the IC folder, nothing clever!)

Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
Yep that worked for me last year.
Now the VERY important bit... Make a backup of your modified 390 folder and put it away somewhere. If you verify cache or RSC update the 390 (unlikely I know) you'll have to redo the copying and it's easier to just drop your backup in than to do all that copy and pasting of texture folders again.

Yep, good tip
Re: Virgin 390 reskin - overwriting defaults
Hi All. I've just downloaded and installed the Virgin reskin and all appears to work Ok. I've not yet over written the IC version yet. May do later.
My question is:- Is there a way to create the Virgin 390 in the consist selection list? I had to build the Virgin 390 a coach at a time but I see the other versions are listed in the consist list.
Many Thanks, Paul.
