Book publisher branching out into TS...

Post by bristolian »

Good evening everyone,

I've been approached by a well-respected book publisher, who's authors comprise former British Railways managers and staff.
They currently produce a rather excellent series of books covering (in some detail) the various workings of British Railways from the 1950s...

They have been looking at branching out into TS2014 (or Trainz), but are wanting to portray routes (and run them) as accurately as either sim will permit.

If there are any 3D modellers and route builders who are interested in joining this project, would you please drop me a Private Message in the first instance.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

This sounds like something suited perfectly to the SVR crowd, their work really is sterling stuff and would be suited to this kind of project - workload from SSS permitting of course.

Hopefully there'll be several interested people, as the very essence of what the Publishers wish to do is something that I can fully appreciate and agree with :).

Very Best Wishes,

Hmmm, a curious development. Very interested to read of ex BR Managers etc who have published on the BR World from the 1950s (presumably onwards). If their proposed TS routes/activities followed suit, it would be very welcome from me indeed.

Thanks for the heads up notice on this. I hope something great comes of it.

Good morning,

Things have progressed somewhat since my posting this yesterday, we now have four builders / modellers on board, with another 'commercial' TS developer expressing an interest in joining in :)...

Suffice to say, things will hopefully start to progress from discussion to action very shortly :).

I'm pretty sure I have quite a few of the publications you are referring to. Their authors certainly have enormous expertise in steam era rail matters but I wonder if they are not going to be disappointed to find that prototypical operations are often difficult to recreate in TS2014.

Good morning,

From correspondence received, they are painfully aware of some of the shortcomings ;).
It is their stated wish to try and run the routes (and stock) as accurately as TS will permit, we shall see how this plans out :).

I'm wondering if the shortcomings of existing routes may be down to them not having been specifically created and fitted out with prototypical working in mind. It'll be interesting to see just what the existing sim can actually be made to do, though I expect that signalling, and the limitations thereof, could turn out to be a potential sticking point.

This will be one to keep an eye on, no doubt about that.
