Re: WCML Over Shap From Keith Ross
Unfortunately I didn't have any artist assistance for my overhaul project. There's only what Keith has done himself by way of a reskin or three. Essentially, if it can't be done by modifying a blueprint and/or writing a script, it hasn't been changed.
What I *do* have is another pretty graph for you to look at. And it *is* pretty.

That is pretty indeed, and I'm sure folks who have the original Class 87 DLC will be happy if they can cross reference for performance reasons. Are these Class 87s going to be capable of *real* real world speeds i.e. I remember a performance article on the Electric Royal Scot in Railway Magazine and at one point they were briefly touching on 125mph!!

I believe those speeds are possible, yes, depending on the trailing load. I wouldn't expect much more than the rated 110 in regular service.
Both locos have received numerous changes, both large and small. You'll have to wait and see and try them out to get the full effect. This also means, however, that the blueprints are not as similar to the originals as they might otherwise be.

Although the 87's had a top speed of 110mph they were geared up to at least 115 maybe 120.Kromaatikse wrote:I believe those speeds are possible, yes, depending on the trailing load. I wouldn't expect much more than the rated 110 in regular service.
I have been in the cab of one doing 113 mph between Rugby and Euston with 9 coaches in tow.
I speed of 125 might have been possible going down Beattock or Shap.

They are capable of at least 121mph, for 10% overspeed testing. The 86s are definitly capable of over 125mph as one managed it during testing of various things for APT and HST (such as aerodynamics which involved fitting a special nosecone, and high speed pantograph tests).749006 wrote:Although the 87's had a top speed of 110mph they were geared up to at least 115 maybe 120.Kromaatikse wrote:I believe those speeds are possible, yes, depending on the trailing load. 87's were certainly capable of an unofficial 120 mph in the right circumstances, ie driver working home at the end of his shift after being held 2 hours for a derailment of the old 16 tonners on a ballast train ahead

That is where the infamous 1984 accident occurred, yes, resulting in the closure of said avoiding lines.
Thankfully, all of the included stock has been inspected carefully and I can assure you that the brakes work as designed.

Because RSC (sorry, Dovetail Games) usually release stuff on Thursdays? Unlikely for WCML over Shap to be relased in the near future though, I think, and this week they'll probably be kept up With the Dovetail changeover anyway.
