These American routes tend to have lovely scenery but driving a loco on them is something of a snozzlefest.

Yes once you have driven over them at about 25mph, I agree with you.

This route has the peculiarity that there is a tunnel with a door.

From Wikipedia:
"On April 4, 1996 an eastbound freight train broke through the doors at the east portal after they did not open properly."
By knowing robustness and predictability of track scripting in TS I am sure something like that cannot happen virtually

One of the reasons I bought the North East Corridor route - but it's spoilt by poor track.

I think the scenery quality and general ambience of the Northeast Corridor Route is absolutely shocking! If the Eastern Seaboard is really like that I don't think I ever want to go. I felt more immersed in the MSTS version of the Northeast Corridor and that's saying something. And why the Acela Express bounces and shakes along the track like it has ants in its pants I don't know.
I think this American route looks amazing, but when there are so many British routes coming out in the near future I'll find it hard to justify buying it. Shame though because it does look amazing, as did the Marias Pass. However, I've never really been able to get into the American routes - I think it's because I'd rather drive at 100mph through dead boring scenery (see GEML) than 25mph through more exciting scenery.

LOL - a great film that... One of my favourite films featuring a train... after the Titfield Thunderbolt of course.
My god... he's going to highball...

NEC was ruined by RSC's refusal to follow up. RSC looks for instant hits.. They're not much for investing in anything long term except the core.
They thought if they built the NEC and plopped down two of the most popular trainsets the entire world would flock to it. They didn't, many waited cautiously.. The people who did bite after getting over the initial excitement of getting to drive an Acela or AEM-7 quickly found out that the route was lifeless and boring. How many times can you pass the same two trains in 2hrs and still be excited on the "busiest rail line in the United States"
Between Philadelphia and NYC RSC supplied us with
Amtrak AEM-7
Amfleets
Acela
GG1 (and honestly.. It's a nostalgia train at best)
What is missing just off the top of my head
Amtrak HHP-8
Septa Silverliners
Arrow |||
Alp 46
Alp 44
NJT Multi-Levels
Comet cars
Septa Bombardier cars
Amtrak Viewliners
NJT P40DC
Keystone Metroliner Cabcar
^ All stuff that runs today.. People constantly asked RSC if ANY of this stuff was ever coming and the questions fell on deaf ears (shocking)... So people spent their money somewhere else. If the route was actually developed around all the traffic that runs on it the scenery shortcomings could have easily been ignored by most train simmers. If they extended to Washington the list grows even longer
No I'm not back
Back in my cave I go...

Much, if not all, of what you describe is actually available here for the NEC:

Thanks to Alexander Morales posted at RWA
Your point remains that RSC did not follow up and I agree entirely.
