+3 from me too.

Me and my wife were there in september and as has been stated there is no farm anymore. Makes you wonder if RSC are only using the google tool now without actually researching their projects in detail?

Google maps are a magnificent tool and used by many companies and agencies for all sorts of reasons but they are limited to a fixed point in time and without regular re-surveying they will pretty soon become out of date and less useful. Without re-survey then Google maps will soon become little more than a historical record of how the world once looked.
I would imagine that gathering high detail satellite imagery for the entire planet and sending a camera car down every street in the world is extremely expensive and not something that Google will want to repeat very often if ever again!

Hmmm, not impressed - why duplicate an already existing route ? Nothing against the WSR - love the place - but if they must do a heritage line, how about the Bluebell or another one that has not yet been done ?
Hopefully this is not an attempt to placate the steam buffs who have been clamouring for a proper main line from the steam era - chuffing along at 25 Mph on a single line in the currently available express locos doesn't quite fit that bill. The only one produced so far was the original Slow & Dirty - and that wasn't even complete - something about not going any further because single line working made it hard to make scenarios I seem to remember ?

What do you call western lines of scotland if not a proper steam era mainline route?

Would have to disagree. RSC must have their reasons for picking WSR and trumping the freeware version makes no logical sense, perhaps because it's one of the longest preserved lines in the country? There's no doubt that despite their dubious rolling stock policies and quality, RSC are the best route builders in town and so I'll welcome any British projects they do. I have a hunch this might be an experiment to gauge the appetite for heritage lines, if successful then it gives RSC access to a new product range with potentially big appeal. Just Trains have had a crack at this market with the mid-Hants but there's something about the screenshots and video's for this route that put me off. Can't quite put my finger on it but it looks too sterile and not enough clutter and variety that you get in the real world.
Furthermore, not a criticism in any way but someone has already pointed out that there are issues with the freeware version concerning AI stock and scenario creation. That's often a key difference with a big RSC commercial release, that it should be ready to go scenario-wise. The pressure is on RSC to make this something extra special that the freeware guys can't do, can they pull it off? I'm excited to find out...

Does it really matter if there is a farm or not?! There was, recently so thats good enough for me. Personally I would rather see a farm than a housing estate!

I am sure someone is building the Bluebell, infact most preserved railways seemed to have been covered!I don't expect RSC to trawl through the forums to see what routes are being built!
Personally I am still waiting for a 1970's classic blue route!

I guess this is the problem when routes get more realistic, some people expect more.
Just like if the author of WCML decided to make a semi fictional version of the ECML, imagine the controversy.

Although the West Somerset Railway is a 25mph Preserved line I wonder what the speeds were in GWR & BR days before closure.
The line might be more interesting to drive if the line speed was faster.

Yes but the farm is not unrealistic. It has existed recently. Unless RSC states that this is the WSR at it was in June 2013 etc I don't see that it matters. As long as the railway infracstructure is realistic and major landmarks are included and townscapes are representative I honestly don't see the problem!

Neither do I, i'm just saying the reason that people are saying in the first place "why is there a farm there" is because they've got too used to having all these spot on details in other routes, there's not a problem having these details, but people just expect too much these days. I'm just saying people need to sit down and think, well.... we're lucky to have this route built for us in the first place. If they don't like it they should go and build it themselves, then they will understand how tiring it is to be a perfectionist.
Kind Regards

Absolutely I agree, I realised what you were trying to say.
I can't help wondering that if it was a different route builder, whether half these comments would arise!

I agree completely, The whole payware thing is another thing, there is no bench mark really. If it's freeware and realistic, great. If it's freeware and fictional, great. If it's payware and realistic, that's nice. If it's payware and fictional..... It is up to you whether you buy it. What it really comes down to is people are trying to find excuses not to pay for something deep down they know they want. If they didn't want it, why does it bother them.
But of course all these factors are ignored because complaining about it is blamed on the companies bad rep.
As an after thought, I wonder what the people now would say to the routes from MSTS such as LBE and WCW, which were known for having stretches of trees where there should be houses and vice versa, they were still very popular routes though. It is no excuse that those routes were ten years ago, just because we're in a different time is no reason to demand more from others.
Kind Regards
David
