Recently a very enterprising gentleman Gary Price ( Fodda ) published a shockwave flash file to replace the RSC "Top Tips" loading flash file . He also included a series of new loading screens and a menu background screen.
This was very widely welcomed as many of us found the "Top Tips " annoying and patronising.
Tonight an RSC update has removed Gary's shockwaveflash file . It seemingly cannot be replaced as the original file structure has changed. The "background" file he produced as a menu background has also become ineffective for similar reasons.
So now we are back to the "Top Tips" plus an advert for the new RSC LA-San Diego route and the "3 trains out of Gibralter " menu screen.
It is very sad that RSC seemingly put so much time and effort into thwarting the efforts of dedicated long term users, who have tried to make the Railworks experience more pleasant.
It's a great pity that RSC do not put so much time and effort into sorting out the numerous long standing bugs in their payware routes and rolling stock. You are all aware of the numerous examples.
Yes it's RSC's game, but we are their paying customers and many of us do not appreciate being treated with utter contempt and being force fed advertising content at every opportunity.

It was already posted about and the flash loading screen (The tips flash file) was removed due to issues with some players having issues with flash.
This was not to destroy efforts of Fodda, nor anyone in making changes to the game but to ensure that their player base wouldn't have issues with flash (by removing it).

This is incorrect !secludedsfx wrote:It was already posted about and the flash loading screen (The tips flash file) was removed due to issues with some players having issues with flash.

The game is still using shockwaveflash files for "Top Tips"...see railworks/data/scaleform/ScreenFontEndStore and RSSlideshow. Top Tips are most definately still there !
ScreenFrontEndStore seemingly draws down the latest advert screen on start up on line or uses a stored advert if offline. Either way this shockwaveflash file cannot be replaced with one that does not draw down the adverts as the game will not start without drawing down the advert.
Therefore the change has nothing to do with not using flash files !
It's one thing to thwart customer's genuine efforts to make the game more pleasant and another thing to pretend it is done for an invalid technical reason.
As I said, It's about time that RSC put their efforts into sorting out the numerous bugs in their existing game content. e.g.'s NEC floating cars and the physics of the Class 466.

Scaleform is flash now is it, well that's news to me.
http://gameware.autodesk.com/scaleform
Basically scaleform works on the same basis as flash but is a different product more tailor made for loading screens in games (as well as other things) and they do use flash files themselves but now the game doesn't rely on a flash plugin and uses scaleform instead.
And here's the changelog which they did

I hear that in the next version RSC is going to make the game auto shutdown if you are detected wearing a tin foil hat.

I think this is a very sinister plot by RSC to promote speculation and FUD leading to a complete breakdown of UKTS.
Why, oh why is there a sudden rush to blame RSC for any and every thing without evaluating the situation or even doing a very simple search of the forum---it's not as if this issue and subsequent discussion/fix is buried dep in the forums thread listing.
Really?....do you then have an explanation as to why I have a copy of the game that has never been on-line (updated files simply copied from the installation that DOES go online) works perfectly?

Good to see, I made that mistake once and my experience of playing the game whilst wearing the hat was less than to be desired.andynwt wrote:I hear that in the next version RSC is going to make the game auto shutdown if you are detected wearing a tin foil hat.

Re: RSC update has ruined "Top Tips " replacement video
So if it can't be changed, how come I am still watching Fodda's screens on load and scenario loading, and NOT seeing Tips?
There are at least two other threads on this subject, and there IS a workaround. Just copy Fodder's swf file into the new Scaleform folder, and rename the file - check out the other threads
Someone mentioned that it loses the progress bar. Maybe (I hadn't noticed), but that doesn't worry me.

As Chris points out there are at least two other threads on this subject. So another is not really needed and is against forum guidelines.
