TSX and TrainDecal.fx shader oddity

Post by chrisell »

I have a user who alerted me to something weird and I can't explain it. My cabs have labels in done with a TrainDecal.fx shader, and when you run the game with TSX mode turned off, the labels become almost unreadable.
Anyone seen this before or have any ideas why the colour might change so dramatically? The texture itself is pure black and white but in non-TSX mode it looks dim grey.

Is the label a texture lying on top of the desk texture?

Yes. It's a separate polygon floating a little above the desk.

It's been like this since traindecal.fx exists. It's simply darker, so white becomes dark grey. You can't do anything about this. I've sent bug report about this to RSC, they responded that i should use TSX mode. Nice fix isn't it? :)

I have noticed with some locos the number goes a dark colour instead of white if you run the game with TSX off.

Well at least it's an answer I suppose. Thanks :)

Same answer I got for reporting the opacity problem with certain models and TSX off and the glaring white platforms and scenery in summer.. Response from RSC "To solve these issues please run with TSX on"

Which is fine as I only use it off when I use the laptop but I'm sure there must be a huge % of users still using it off...

Yes it's caused by the same problem. Older locomotives use texdiff for numbers (which have a serious drawback, the jaggy edges of the numbers but looks the same in both modes), newer use traindecal.fx, which looks better, but grey in non-TSX mode.
