Best of the Workshop

Post by andynwt »

There is so much material on there now that it can be hard to find something that you know will be worth running. The new filters are MUCH better (hurrah! can filter by Class!), but it would be nice to know what other people think :)

Who are the scenario designers that reliably knock it out of the park, time after time?

For me, the undisputed champion is DPS: http://steamcommunity.com/id/dpsimulati ... ppid=24010

Play any one on of those and you are guaranteed a marvelous time. Particular favourites for me are Northern Steel (an interesting routing on the WCML with great attention to detail, easily the equal of the best payware scenario designers), and Express Rescue.

Also been impressed by Armrail: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656 ... ppid=24010

Cheesy Wotsit's "Snowy Snowy Day" series has kept me entertained:

As a noob I find the Workshop very confusing. There seems to be no sense whatsoever to the way it is laid out and I end up trawling through pages and pages of stuff before finding something remotely interesting.

But the DPS and Armrail ones seem very interesting, just the sort of stuff I like. So many thanks for the heads up!

That's the idea with this thread, other people can point out what's worth playing :) I completely agree with you, the workshop interface is horrendous for finding stuff!!

There's a five-scenario series called "When Branson Ruled The World" that I find very entertaining. I didn't like Part 4 as much as the rest but they're all well done and, IMO, immersive experiences.

http://www.engine-driver.com/user/Show/66 I have a few playthroughs of various Workshop scenarios on Engine Driver; there may be spoilers though so if you want to play along as it were, grab the link at the end of the article and have a go :)

Thanks, will check those out!

The Branson ones look good, and require downloads from this website. Interesting to see they haven't tightened that up on the workshop yet.

Two of my favourite scenarios from the Workshop are on Hamburg - Hannover route:

"Uelzen Containers":
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =165499546

Compose and drive a freight train with the DB 232 "Ludmilla" on the Hamburg-Hannover route

And:

"Mit der BR423 von Lüneburg nach Hamburg//With BR423 from Lüneburg to Hamburg":
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =165865374

Drive a DB BR423 from station Lüneburg to Hamburg central station.

Both are nice scenarios with a nice amount of AI traffic.

Several nice scenarios are also created by user "Zo0ok":

Quite a few scenarios for the Fallmouth branch created by him, but also various other routes.

The workshop portal has been re-jigged to make it easier to navigate. It finally makes some sense - give it a try!

Getting rid of the unalphabetised tags was a very smart move!!
