Excessive CPU usage since TS2014

As the title says, Since the update to TS2014 the game uses the CPU a hell of a lot more (usually over 75%). Anyone have any ideas as it used to run fine before?

Even though the figure of 75% CPU utilisation might be higher than you experirnced pre-upgrade (what were you seeing then?) if the game runs OK then I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Have you noted your CPU load figure change in any other programs or even has it changed when the PC is ostensibly idle?

Perhaps it's a trick to create the illusion of multi core cpu usage, with some infinite loops ran on the cpu cores :D

One day maybe. TS2014 still only utilises one of my 4 cores, even if I manually set the Affinity to all 4 it's reluctant ever to go above 30% CPU usage

Cpu 0 works
CPu 1 parked
Cpu 2 works
Cpu 3 parked
Cpu 4 parked
Cpu 4 parked
Cpu 6 works
Cpu 7 works

i7 Quad Core=8 Cores
Cpu 0,1,2,3,4 are real Core Cpu
Cpu 4,5,6,7 are virtuell Core Cpu

Looks me two Hard Cores work.

In order to work all processor cores you must put in the game launch options the following command:
-Multicore

Unless things have changed in TS2014, the multicore option was a cause of confusion when first introduced with conflicting advice from RSC about what it did and why.
The thread at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... =multicore touches upon the advice given but back then the conclusion was that the game supported using more than one core natively and no options needed to be ticked or added to the command line. Time for a re-test probably.

Hi, I think it was lowish at 25% odd. I never noticed anything before so didn't take much notice. It just seems to be TS2014 that makes a high change.

On a core i7 860 @ 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM, TSX OFF - TS 2013 displayed 13/14% core usage and TS2014 now displays 18-20% usage with no change in game settings.
Similarly on a core i7 2600K @ 4.8Ghz 16 GB RAM, TSX ON - TS 2013 displayed 18 - 20% cpu usage and TS 2014 now displays 28 - 30% usage.
Frame rates (not smoothness) are slightly down.
RAM usage has not changed significantly.
So there seems to have been an increase in cpu usage on my rigs anyway.
Also if the processor speed is say "lowish" then you may well see a huge increase in cpu usage as the hardware "struggles" to render and display the code and images presented to it.

MY cpu used to go like crazy when load was light causing overheat. Things like the editor with a completely blank route would have a massive frame rate so cpu was working very hard. No idea if it will help you but do you have a Fps limit in place ? I use -FPSLimit=30 in steam launch options.

I have tried the fps limit but it doesn't seem to do anything. During the loading screens the fps jump up to 1400ish which is where the CPU fans starting getting faster - Confusing!!

How many cores does your CPU have? I'm guessing 2, if it's hitting 75% in normal gameplay.

It's possible that either some game changes, or more probably some settings changes, have moved your setup from being graphics card limited to being CPU limited (easily done on many systems within the TS graphics options).

Framerate during loading isn't really meaningful, as it's not rendering frames - just loading data. It used to be possible for Vsync to limit framerate during loading, which just resulted in vastly increased loading times. If the CPU's working hard that's generally good, because it means that nothing else is holding your system back - why would you have a fast CPU and want it to be sitting idle?

Have your in-game framerates changed; and also what's your GPU load during gameplay?
