Now I've got a new PC I'm considering experimenting with the AA settings in the game.
Would someone mind giving a laymans guide to what they all mean?! There's FXAsomething, SSAsomething and lots of variations thereof. Which setting gives the best visuals, SSA or FXA and which number setting thereof?
I want to give my new hardware a serious test by bumping up to the best possible setting but I don't know which of the options in the game is the best possible setting!
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Anti-Aliasing
FXAA + 2 x 2 SSAA gives good visual results - there's been a more detailed post on settings very recently - but be warned it can have a big hit on your system in scenery dense areas especially with overhead line equipment.

Re: Anti-Aliasing
I've found custom settings to be problematic. I was experiencing SBH errors while driving on a scenario I'd created on WCML North last week which is something I've very rarely experienced. I did the standard cache clearance and verified files and still was getting the same issue. I then reset the graphics settings to one of the defaults and hey presto problem solved.

Is the 2x2 SSA better than 8xMSA?

I just run mine at the default setting for my computer. Most games these days if not all determine the settings for your computer by analysing your computer specs during installation.

Intel i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad Core, Asus P8Z 68-V LE MB, Asus GTX 1060 Strix 6GB Gaming graphics card, Windows 10 Home 64 bit, 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 ram, Viewsonic VX2452mh LED 1080P HD Monitor. Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HD, Seagate Firecuda 2 TB HD,

jimmy, I can't find a link to it and short on time but do a forum search for wooley's old thread regarding the graphics options. It's for one of the older versions of the game but the principles still hold--it holds recommendations and links to documents that explain the terms properly.

I've settled on 2x2 SSAA which gives me great visuals with not too much of a dent in performance.
Re: Anti-Aliasing
Bare in mind when it says 3x3 for example, it is rendering your screen at 3 times the width and 3 times the height then squashing it to fit your monitor. This is a massive performance hit as it's rendering a massive picture.. but it does clean up the jagged lines. :p I don't know what hardware could handle 3x3.. it's not very optimized.
