hi there
i am trying to build a route but having a few problems
when i am selecting my track when i get the little drag window on the right of the screen with options i am selecting 3rd rail for electricity when i lay the track its on 2 running rails that appear and no 3rd rail
i get the same if i select OHLE as well just the 2 running rails
i have tried this on various route tracks the standard rsc, HS1 track and iow track still the same????

Re: route building question
The 3rd rail is a separate lifted item, when you select 3rd rail or OHLE in the properties box you're just telling the game that it should allow electric traction. Not all track types support this though, exactly which track have you used?
Somebody else will chip in with instructions about where to find the 3rd rail loft and what offsets to use.

Re: route building question
You can set any track type to be electrified. Third rail is a separate lofted asset, catenary may be either defined in the track rule blueprint or added as a separate lofted asset depending on which type you wish to use, but the actual track geometry you use has no bearing on whether or not electrification is possible.gptech wrote:The 3rd rail is a separate lifted item, when you select 3rd rail or OHLE in the properties box you're just telling the game that it should allow electric traction. Thanks for clarifying that Steve, you live and learn!FoggyMorning wrote:You can set any track type to be electrified.........but the actual track geometry you use has no bearing on whether or not electrification is possible.
If rosschris is using a track type/track rule with the electrification set off by default, would you suggest he copies, renames and edits a rule to change this? If nothing else it would help eliminate inadvertantly laying 'dead' sections of track.

Re: route building question
My personal preference is to just lay the track "as is" and then, once satisfied that the overall layout is "right", edit the track properties after the fact. Pressing the space bar will cycle through the highlighting of various different properties (IIRC, the order is track type [main, yard, etc.], directionality, speed, track bed rumble, electrification, line unevenness [cab sway], superelevation, signal links).
Regarding track rules, I usually create my own using the blueprint editor, but making an edited copy of an existing rule would certainly work if Ross is not comfortable with this method, and help to minimise the work needed in editing the track properties "after the fact"
