Atomic Systems

looks like I need to get a new soundcard. I was looking at the Xonar D1 PCI on amazon uk.
I don't want to go for the higher price ones, used mainly for ts2013.
Anyone got any views on it using with ts2013, I'm using an old creative x-fi at the moment, pci.

I can only sing up the praises of my D2X, blows Creative out of the water as far as my experience with both manufacturers go, can't recommend them highly enough, however I have no experience of the model you are thinking of?

"I have had the D1 for sometime now. First of all let me tell you for the price it is an excellent product. Just un boxing the thing will give you a good idea of the build quality and when properly configured it really pumps some decibels. Not to mention GX mode that restores hardware sound acceleration which is handled by the Asus AV100 processor; unlike the creative solution games will not have to be individually configured to use hardware sound acceleration where supported. Rumor has it that this is technically the same chip on the much pricier D2. Word of caution; I would recommend you use the Xonar Unified driver instead of the Asus driver. Also if you want reduced latency's for more responsive audio handling in such critical things as recording, then choose the low latency mode in the unified driver. Low latency mode will remove hardware sound acceleration but for most modern PC's you will not notice the difference in performance. Don't forget to run the driver as administrator in Windows 7 or else it may not install correctly."

Before you buy, try your onboard sound as it is pretty good these days and is up to scratch with a lot of sound cards. I use to run a Creative Audigy2 ZS sound card which I have sitting in its box and when I got the computer I run at the moment decided not to put it in and used the onboard sound and was amazed at how good it was so have stayed with it.

Sorry, no...

...not even close to the cheapest discrete sound card. And, many have found, it may well also contribute to lower frame rates.

Yeah, my onboard soundcard was atrocious, every time a kettle went past my fps would become subterranean! Dedicated soundcard worked wonders.

Never had a problem with my onboard sound.

You cant go wrong with a Xonar . Brilliant cards and worth every penny . Love my DX

Anything from Asus is quality stuff that's built to last.

I own an Asus Xonar,best sound card ive had,out of the Audigy 2 ZS,SB1024 live,with creative I always got mysterious crackles and buzzing sounds.
I have the DG model with pre amp,with a good pair of Sennheiser headphones makes all the differance.

I've got two Xonar cards, one on my Windows 7 machine which I have had for a few years now and its still going strong. Sound cards seem to age less than an equivalent graphics card. The other is in my Linux computer and works well.

You mention the xonar unified driver insted of the asus
Could you post a link for it here please, I'm on win 7 64bit.
