Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
I agree that the nose definitely looks too flat. Nothing to do with lighting, textures, shading or whatever.
Not sure whats going on with the anti aliasing there too, because the logo lines on the side look awful.

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
I think the reason the nose looks flat is because of the chevrons on the nose becoming flat at the top where they should be curved...Varney wrote:I agree that the nose definitely looks too flat. Nothing to do with lighting, textures, shading or whatever.

It's certainly got a slightly different expression on it's face compared to the real one

Not really it fits in very well with RSCs policy of 1 model 1 livery of late.faedundee2 wrote:Not bad, interesting choice of loco though but can see it going well on the steam era routes... Wonder if the cab will be correct for DP1 though?

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
Strange choice...?
Possibly a result of the NRM collaboration / tie up on the A4s...?
Would make sense, another key part of the National collection and a direct successor to the streaks
ETA - Certainly agree that the nose looks very odd, but can't make up my mind if it is the model or the angle / lighting.
Compared to prototype pics, the nose looks too wide and too low, compared to a protoype that appears narrower and higher. However, looking at key reference points - marker lights, headlight, curved buffer beam cut out doesn't really give away where / if any modelling discrepencies lurk...

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
Agreed, I'm no Deltic expert but my instant impression was that it doesn't look right. Similar in effect to the front of the RSC 87 which also has some hard to determine element that is not quite right.briyeo1950 wrote:It's certainly got a slightly different expression on it's face compared to the real one
It's obvious that it's DP1 but there is something amiss with the modelling.
Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
The main issue is, The arch over the bonnet top is too flat....
The Front windows are the wrong shape, ruining the distinctive 'sad eyes' droop - They are too tall in height, and too flat along the bottom (probably a knock-on affect caused by the flat bonnet)
The distance from headlamp to the buffer line is too short (again probably caused by the flat bonnet)
The distance from windows to headlamp looks a little long, but this may be cause by another defect, which is the front doesn't look to have the correct angle of slope (but no decent side on pics of the model to confirm that)
That's quite a lot of faults for a model that has already been textured... which doesn't leave me with much hope that the faults will be corrected, even with the big 'work in progress' disclaimer
A couple of good reference pics (open them all in separate browser tabs and flick between them):

And the RSC model from the same side and approximate direction

Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
The latest set of photos appear to show that the nose has been somewhat remodelled

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
Morning everyone,
To me, the profile of the nose end looks too upright, whereas with the real thing, then ends are raked back slightly.
This loco just looks wrong...

Make sure to place this comment on their FB page, or send it into support. Chances are it won't be seen here, but it does look like their open to remodelling it.bristolian wrote:Morning everyone,

I thought that I would mention that my late dad designed the switchgear electrics on this loco whilst he was head of switchgear design at English Electric.
Sadly when EE got taken over by GEC, they made him redundant.

Be interesting to compare this model to the one included in the Bishop Auckland to Darlington route...

Re: RSC Deltic Prototype DP1
I'm not overly concerned the nose is, or could be the wrong profile, I just love the fact it looks like a 1950s ice cream van. Can't get me enough diesels in fetching colour schemes. Love them!
