Hi Pistipistitom wrote:Hello everybody, I hope I'm not asking an already answered question ( did some search) , I was just curious, how is it there are absolutely no outside cams ( key 4 the locked view ) in stations ? Is it sg. one can do by entering the world editor? ( haven't tried that yet). Apologies if this is a stupid question![]()

The latter, the '4' camera is generated along the distance of travel, not pre-defined.ttjph wrote:That's something I've always wondered: are the '4' camera positions defined all along the track in the route, or does the game just randomly generate them at the nearest point to the train?
There are some routes where for long stretches it only wants to give you overhead viewpoints, and a few other places where I've had it put me in a platform or embankment...

Not at the user end, no, you can fiddle with settings for the cameras such as the focal length (you'll see a few people sometimes post screenshots that look more like real photographs and that's one of the "tricks") but how the cameras are positioned is hard coded and so can't be changed by anyone other than RSC. Plus the sim doesn't know what the different scenery objects are (it just knows where something is and how big it is, not what it is, so it can't tell the difference between and a bush for example) so that type of filtering wouldn't be possible.pistitom wrote:So, do You think one ( obviously not someone with my knowledge ) could change the code like..." if there's a station building to the right of the train then camera positioned right, building is to the left, camera to the left , etc etc.....? So when these type of objects :platform, bench get close the game would automatically generate a new position for the cam ?

One thing I liked about Trainz is you could add cameras or remove any of them, change the view or the motion.PaulH2 wrote:Not at the user end, no, you can fiddle with settings for the cameras such as the focal length (you'll see a few people sometimes post screenshots that look more like real photographs and that's one of the "tricks") but how the cameras are positioned is hard coded and so can't be changed by anyone other than RSC. That said, we don't know any details, but there are apparently changes to the cameras coming in TS2014, so who knows...
Personally, I've always thought the best enhancement to the camera system would be the ability for route builders (and scenario authors for that matter) to place camera locations in a route and have one of the cameras able to jump to the closest of those pre-defined positions. Of course you can do that manually using the '8' camera, but its not quite the same thing .

This, along with OpenBVEs auto zooming trackside camera would be lineside camera heaven. I always liked the fact that in Trainz you could change which vehicle in the consist gets tracked by the panning camera as it seems silly for it to be the loco when749006 wrote:One thing I liked about Trainz is you could add cameras or remove any of them, change the view or the motion.PaulH2 wrote:Not at the user end, no, you can fiddle with settings for the cameras such as the focal length (you'll see a few people sometimes post screenshots that look more like real photographs and that's one of the "tricks") but how the cameras are positioned is hard coded and so can't be changed by anyone other than RSC. Sometimes the camera is static and points in one direction and sometimes it will follow the train as you go past.
Also if there is not a camera in range it defaults to the equivlent of the outside view [2].

You can do that already in TS2013 (and indeed right back to the original Rail Simulator I think). When you're in the '4' camera, press Ctrl and the left or right arrows to change which vehicle in the consist the camera tracks, you can do the same from the '2' (or '3') cameras so that you follow a different vehicle.deltic009 wrote:I always liked the fact that in Trainz you could change which vehicle in the consist gets tracked by the panning camera
