Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Hi all, I'm attempting a scenario based on 6M34 Grangemouth - Dalston tanks and stumbled on a bit of an issue. My consist is 18 Oovee loaded TEA tanks and 1 EWS class 66 (V2)
Basically after leaving Grangemouth on the E&G route I stopped on the gradient approaching Grangemouth junction. When I attempted to restart my train it just rolled back down the hill. I've attempted it in all throttle notches with and without sanders and get the same result every time, the train slips back down the hill at approx 2½ MPH.
Are RSC really telling us a 66 isn't capable of starting 1800 tons on a gradient?

TEA, bulk fuel haulage - that'll be a 60 on the front then
Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Hehe might need to be
Although in real life it is a daily booked class 66 working, has been for years, so it should be at least capable if not best suited!

Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Hmm, try knocking a couple of tanks off the back & see if that improves things. I wrote a scenario for a pair of 37 starting 16 loaded Fastline TEA and it was just about do-able without rolling back down the hill. That was before the extension was released, so I should revisit the scenario, as the service wasn't meant to stop on the hill. Looking at the WTT, 6M34 isn't meant to stop on the climb from Fouldubs Jn to Granemouth Jn.
Expanding the TS wagon fleet.
Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Will try that but its a bit rubbish if it can't do it
Its a booked working so the real thing should be capable even if it's not a booked stop, only the royal train gets a guaranteed clear path nowadays!
When you consider what they haul ealsewhere 1800 tons isn't a particularly heavy load. Hunterston/Longannet coals are booked 2400 tons for examle, I'm sure their will be heavier.

Have you tried downloading and applying the unofficial patch from the File Library?

I found that fixed some of the physics niggles

I did although it didn't make much difference
Will go back again though and double check I've installed it properly

Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Before laying the blame entirely on the loco, are we sure the wagons physics are correct? The TEAs are relatively old now, and I understand there are some oddities in the behaviour of pre-TS2013 stock

Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Maybe version 2 is just simulating the amount of traction left in the EWS 66 fleet
tusk tusk
But yes, a 66 should eat 1800tonnes alive if there's not significant gradient.

Hehe maybe thats the problem!
I've reinstalled Chris's patch and it seems happy to lift the train away from a stand now, unfortunately I appear to have lost half my controls including train brakes
Presumably I've mucked up the install somewhere!

You'll have to excuse me!
I'm used to seeing the Murco tanks trundle through Cardiff every day behind a 60

I noticed the oovee 57 slows down to a crawl if on an incline and you cannont get it going again.
Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Still struggling with this and decided to give up, not sure if its RSC or Oovee thats got their physics wrong as it moved 18 similarly weighted 'loaded' HTAs without any issues. I also tried to start the same consists at Greenhill lower jn (A signal I know these trains have been stopped or slowed at) and it failed to move them from there also.
Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
As I posted on the Class 66 Power thread, I have set up a consist for a Cl.60 hauled TEA rake.
Could not get the train started at all to start with. In fact I had to go through the JT manual for the 60 to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong...
... turned out that one of the TEAs had a handbrake set to on - simple, but certainly worth checking

Re: Class 66 V2 struggling with 1800 tons
Just been trying it as I had an issue getting stuck in a tunnel just after waverly. However dropping power to 1 or 2 and waiting for a little momentum to build got it going. Strange thing though is this happened even on flat ground in the first loop of the waiting game ? Same again, full power nothing, but gets going on 1. If its wheel slip its not registering at all either in cab of F5 data. This in what can only be described as half a train load at best. Did wonder though, after checking the consist for brakes on, why is the last container wagons brakes in red ?TheTazman wrote:I noticed the oovee 57 slows down to a crawl if on an incline and you cannont get it going again.
