Strange performance problem

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place for this but it doesn't fit in to any of the other forums.
For some reason my FPS has drastically dropped in TS2013. I literally mean, I get less than 2 frames per second. For every route.
I have a powerful expensive laptop and have been running the game on the settings I have set it to for ages without any problems.
Then suddenly I launch the game and the performance has dropped so much it's impossible to play the game. It's the same in the world and scenario editor, same for every route, there are no background programs running, I haven't touched the settings at all either.
It doesn't seem to make sense, that the performance would suddenly stop like that.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
George

I have a few ideas:
1. Verify the cache (I know, sounds repetitive, but you might as well give it a shot.)
2. Do an anti virus check. You never know, could be some malware slowing down the framerates
3. Fiddle round with the settings. Maybe run it at medium or low quality for a while
4. Restart your laptop. Most likely fix if you hibernate your PC more than you turn it off completely.
Those are all my ideas, Hope one of them works.

auto update of one of your graphics drivers perhaps?

Ok, thanks for your replies. I often hibernate my computer but restarting it did not solve the problem. I don't think verifying the game files would work because I think that is for file related problems, not so much for performance issues. I will see if I can update my graphics drive.

In fact, I just got a windows update, so it could be that the game is not set to use my graphics processor. I will check now.

Has any of that worked yet?

If you have just had a windows update, try doing a system restore to when railworks worked correctly, and see if that works, you can them be pretty sure it is a windows/system fault, not railworks mucking around.

I updated my graphics driver, and I'm going to see if it works later.
If that doesn't work I will probably try using system restore to yesterday when it work.
Thanks

Have a look at Windows Task Manager. Are there too many processes running in the background?
If some anti-viral software is running a screening of disk files, it is not uncommon, that other CPU and file hungry applications like a train simulator will experience performance drops. Beginning guessing reasons and do a trail and error on a situation that is not well understood can be a long journey. System restore is the safe option, but skipping a software update because of a file screening, that temporarely prevent the trains simulator from running, may have other consequences.
Edit: the second w in Windows;-)

Framerates on a laptop can drop dramatically if it is not plugged into the mains during use

I have seen the plugging in phenomenon before and I always run the game with the laptop plugged into the mains.
I emailed RSC about the problem and they said it is very unusual, and that I should take the ordinary clear cache and verify game files, and maybe update my graphics card software, before contacting them again and telling them if that fixed it.
I was actually quite impressed with the email system; I got a reply less than 24 hours after emailing them and it was clear and helpful.
I have updated my graphics software, and rebooted my computer, so I'm going to see if that works.

Hi,
I updated my graphics card software and nothing changed. I also used System Restore to restore the system to 4 days ago, but the problem was not fixed. I also verified the game files, cleared the cache, and nothing happened. I turned the settings of the game down to the lowest, but the same amount of lag was still happening. I also tried playing different games and I found that they were lagging as well so it may be a problem with my computer.
This is really annoying me because I have spent an awful lot of money trying to make this game run well and buying the utterly overpriced DLC, and it seems all of that was a waste. RSC can't seem to find a solution either.

Well don't that beat all. Well, are you able to send me the 375 reskin? I might as well keep on working on the route if you can't input anything now. I really wish you could continue with all this, you've played a massive part in building my route and I'm sure you're as annoyed as me that you can't help me that much now.
I hope you'll be able to find a solution somewhere. I'm sure if you look around the forums of the make of your laptop you'll find something about Lag in Games and how to fix it.

Hi GCH,
It could be worth giving your computer a belated spring clean. Dust can get into the graphics card, memory etc. and can this can cause your system to run slower - I'd also look into defragging (unless you use a SSD).
There are plenty of tips on how to best clean your PC without damaging it by searching on net.

Is the GPU from Nvidia, by any chance? Their latest drivers were atleast partially broken, caused lot's of problems and i had install previous drivers back to solve them issues.
