Re: Strange performance problem

Post by GCHartley »

Can we just stop with this needless jabbering. Maybe I was a bit harsh on RSC, although saying that I had an anti-RSC rant is taking it a bit far, all I did was merely state my opinion. This thread is not here for arguments, it is here for anyone who can give me help to solve my problem, so lets just forget about that, alright?

Moving on, I said to RSC that it was a problem with my computer and not the game as nothing that they suggested had worked.
They replied with this:
That is possible George, without looking at your system it is impossible to say,
It is very difficult to locate the causes of problems without knowing the type of system that it is installed on.

There may be another underlying cause, in order to rule out any local system problems please send in your system specifications so that our team can investigate and offer you the required support you need.

I have included a Web Link which outlines exactly how to send in your system specifications

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you may be experiencing.

So I'm going to send in my specs and see what they have to say about it.

Do you think you could post up your specs here, too?

Yes, that might be a good idea.

It appears you have almost the same specs as mine. The major difference is that I have Windows 8 and 8GB of RAM. Also, it say that your laptop is a "Notebook."
Do you think that would also affect the performance, it being a smaller laptop.

My laptop isn't a notebook. I don't know why it says that, my screen is over 35cm wide.

Ah, ok, sorry for that. So basically, you have an identical sister to my laptop, yet yours is screwing up for no reason.

George, you're running low on hard drive space; although you have 630GB of HDD space it's partitioned into 2 logical drives, and you're only using 1. Probably not that low to cause your problem but it'd be wise to take the load off C:

I still think it could be the graphics driver... 8)

So, either re-install an older driver, 314.22 which is WHQL certified OR disable virtual themes, but i am not sure where it's done. There was mention that it could/would help.

George, you've queried the hardware to produce the results shown above, but are those results reflected in what Windows can see? Use the system tab in control panel to check.

A 375 has been mentioned, so I presume it's a rekindle you've done---does your image editing software run OK?

Are you talking about the 375 I mentioned? It was a reskin if you want to know.

Hi George, drive C is looking a bit cramped! Try moving the swap file onto partition D which has a lot more room & will give more room on C

whoops..........I'm blaming the auto spellcheck on this phone for that one, but yes, I assumed it was a reskin George was doing which would mean he has image editing software installed. For the sake of completeness it'd be useful to see if the problem extends to programs as well as games.

Yep, I did notice that I had an empty D: drive and a full C: one. Can I click and drag the folders over to D: or do I have to do something else?

So how would I re-install an older driver? I'm not a total absolute techno-freak so I'm not sure about everything.

Yup, every program runs fine, except for the games which are heavy on my processor. That's when things start to go wrong.

What's the swap file and where can I find it? Presumably drive C:?

I don't think the problem spreads to programs particularly, but it seems to affect apps which need a bit of welly from the processor.

Probably easier and better in the long run to delete the unused partition and extend C: to use the resulting free space. Off the top of my head I can't remember exactly where in control panel the disc management tool is though.
