Yes, I will try to send you the 375, Dan. I'm utterly distraught that I can't get the game to work
I've only had my computer for a year so I don't think dust is the problem.
My graphics card is a Nvidia GEforce GT 555M, I don't think it's that new.

Have you tried a disk cleanup or a registry cleanup?

Hi, have you checked that the computer power setting is still on high performance and hasn't dropped to power save?

How much Gig of mem should you have? How much is it currently saying it's recognising?

Could be one of your components has failed - Might be worth checking device manager - also there is some better software out there that does thorough checks on all components and reports any problems

Although you have a separate GPU, does your CPU also have integrated graphics? If it does, could it be that for whatever reason your system has reverted to using this. This would explain a low fps in games.

Hi, thanks for all of the replies.

Firstly, I haven't tried a disk or registry cleanup, so I might have a go. My laptop is a bit cluttered and has collected a lot of useless stuff.

I always check that the computer is in High Performance mode when running the game, and the time that it was having problems it was definitely in high performance mode. I'm still perplexed by the fact that when I turned the graphics right down to Low, the same extremely low FPS rate occurs.

I should have quite a lot of meg, and according to Device manager I'm using just over a half of it, so I don't think it's memory related. I have quite a lot of ram as well.

My CPU does have integrated graphics, but all games are set by default to use my NVIDIA processor. I am 100% sure that the game was running with the processor, I even checked the settings.

What I don't get at all is a. Why the FPS stayed the same even when I turned the settings down and b. Why this suddenly happened for no apparent reason, even though I was running the sim normally just hours before. I hadn't even shut my computer down during that time.

Just a word of caution, be very very careful with registry cleaning tools, they can (and often do) do more harm than good, leading to all sorts of issues that can be tough to fix. Unless you have a very specific reason to believe you have registry issues, I personally wouldn't advise "cleaning" the registry.

A stab in the dark, but your laptop is not a Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 by any chance is it?

Just to clarify, the question you're answering there was
scorpion71 wrote:How much Gig of mem should you have? How much is it currently saying it's recognising?
Memory is RAM, so I suspect that what you're referring to as 'meg' is your hard drive space....might seem a bit pedantic but it'd certainly help if we're all using the same terms for the same things.
Device manager doesn't tell you how much of any resource you're using, it tells you the state of your hardware components so I suspect you've used Windows Explorer; open up 'Control Panel', click 'System' and on the left hand side you should see a link to 'Device Manager'. Click on this and look for any yellow exclamation marks which indicate a problem with a piece of hardware and also check that your nVidia graphics chip is detected. If all that's clear, back to the 'System' page in 'Control Panel' where it'll tell you how much RAM Windows is 'seeing' as being available---if you know you have 8GB installed but it's reported as 4 (for example) then thats where the problem will lie.
GCHartley wrote:I also tried playing different games and I found that they were lagging as well so it may be a problem with my computer.
More than likely; it's possible that a Windows Update or any other automatic background update has switched the BIOS setting back to using the integrated graphics of the CPU, unlikely as it is stranger things have happened, but even if it had it really shouldn't have slowed it down to such a ridiculous crawl though it's worth checking---If you post the model make and number of your machine somebody will be able to tell you how to access the BIOS, and where to look to check if that's as it should be.

It still sounds like a power problem to me. Are you sure that the power supply/charger is actually working, have any of the plugs come loose.

On a laptop you can usually tell by how the screen is dimmer when it is unplugged. May not be true for all but it was certainly true for mine.

I thought this thread was to help you restore your framerates instead of having a needless anti-RSC rant?

The point hasn't been labelled anymore and I suggest you do the same.

So? That comment still remains there.
