That's reassuring!a straight copy of files is more than adequate for back up purposes.
So, regarding the move - as per MGD11's first post?

Basically, yes......copying over those files and folders and then running steam.exe builds up a new installation; Steam may decide you're installing on a different PC and ask you to confirm that it's what you want to do, and if so you'll get a code by e-mail which you'll need to enter to complete the process---make sure you know which e-mail address you signed up to Steam with!!! If you mean you have an external hard drive connected via a USB port, I wouldn't recommend it---the transfer rate across USB may not be up to the mark when running 'intensive' routes---nothing to stop you trying though, as you can install Steam/TS2013 on as many computers as you like; the only restriction is that you can only log in to Steam using one at a time. If it didn't work out as you'd like/hoped it's easy enough to move it on to the lappy's built-in drive, so all you'd lose would be time (and maybe some hairspellow3010 wrote:I have recently bought a new laptop with very good remote hard drive storage. Though my main desktop PC has TS2013 and all the associated DLC/add-ons in a specified back-up folder, I am looking to install Steam and TS2013 onto my new lap-top/remote hard drive. Is that possible?
I must still be mising something here...asically, yes......copying over those files and folders and then running steam.exe builds up a new installation

Is that it?
Is it safe to try Railworks.exe from the new location? - I don't want to trigger another full reinstall
Have I missed a step?
ETA - The Steam Library tab under "Settings" still shows the game installed under the old library location (E:\)
How did you start Steam.exe?gptech wrote:Just a thought....but if you followed the instructions for creating libraries in different locations Steam may apply that setting to any new installation. Make sure you have good backups of your goodies and reset Steam to have games in the default locations.
