Class 08 coming out on steam soon

Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
If the FB mob are unhappy then RSC tend to get the hint that they might of made a blunder. But I have to agree with what firetrap said for those who make scenarios this is becoming abit of a nightmare.

I imagine they pay much greater attention to the financial statements than the reaction of the social media, unfortunately. As someone has pointed out, if it wasn't working out for them then they would have stopped the tactic ages ago.

It only works because all the newbies dont know any different and will buy all this reworked rubbish, RSC is just about very little effort, well i will put in the same minimal effort, i can not be bothered to press add to cart, RSC products at the moment are not worth it, will wait for the third party releases.

Surely cashing in to this extent can't be good in the long term? They have already put out Version2 locos which consisted of a few tweaks here and there usually less liveries and a couple of mundane scenarios, price £11.99.
They really don't seem to care how obvious the money grab is anymore.

Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
It seems like with each of these "new releases" aka "rehashed releases" that RSC are focusing more towards the "new player market" rather than the existing players and customer base...
Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
That actually makes sense, we are already hooked and have spent our money. Its about new business.RSC are focusing more towards the "new player market
What I have seen in the past is RSC take notice of the mob, be it on FB or from here. They have shown in the past they do listen, and occasionally they come up with gems (Woodhead).
But its easy to get complacent, its not as if they have much in the way of competition. The bottom line is sales.

Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
Squid hit the nail on the head, RSC know that until they get some stiff competition they can do pretty much what they like. Train simming is a niche area where customers dont have much to chose from. RSC know this and are milking it for all it's worth.
Until people catch on and quite simply stop buying RSC products the moment they are released then this is just going to continue. Wait for the sales or dont buy and if this is done en masse they'll get the message

I haven't bought anything from RSC for ages having spent heavily in the past, and I am sure there are plenty of others like me. There may be enough new users to take advantage of right now, but this well will run dry as will the goodwill.

As a relatively new user, I would refute all of that...RSC are focusing more towards the "new player market

Established users with existing models on your HD aren't really affected, are you???
I have been very selective with RSC purchases, most based on routes with route and stock assets that I want - Falmouth, S&C, Woodhead - so that gets me a decent 158 model, 66, 37, 08 and a selection of steam engines (it would be a huge benefit to see more reskins for the "route" loco models
For rolling stock I have avoided RSC, with the exception of one of their Easter sale packages. Most of my rolling stock is from JT or DT.
I know their is another supplier, and TBH their offering fits my period of interest perfectly, but in the Internet age, not being able to find out about the product, discuss patches and fixes* etc is a no go for me.
* and let's face it, in the sim world pretty much nothing is perfect out of the box - that's why all these fora exist ...

As far as I know there's no reason not to discuss certain topics privately. You may send me a PM asking about whatever and I'll see if I can let you know what I think. Maybe others here would also like to join the PRIVATE discussions.rkk01 wrote:I know their is another supplier, and TBH their offering fits my period of interest perfectly, but in the Internet age, not being able to find out about the product, discuss patches and fixes* etc is a no go for me.

Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
I agree with this completely. I too have spent heavily in the past but almost nothing in the last 6 months.andynwt wrote:I haven't bought anything from RSC for ages having spent heavily in the past, and I am sure there are plenty of others like me. The current strategy from RSC comes as no surprise. Let's not forget that more recent developments in the sim have been firmly pitched at attracting new users, Fisher Price HUD, Xbox controller support, relay play, career scenarios? None of these were ever requested by hardcore established users like us lot here and on other forums. These developments were aimed purely and simply at maximising the reach of the game as far and wide as possible and pulling in regular gamers. It stands to reason then that DLC will follow the same path and what easier way to sell stuff to newbies than re-packaging existing DLC with a few minor tweaks and re-selling it?
I can fully understand the reasons why RSC are tempted down this road but it's a risky strategy as pointed out by Andy above. Look after your established customers first and foremost. If you lose their buy-in then things will go rapidly belly up once the newbies and regular gamers lose interest (which they will and quickly too). You have to be seriously into trains and simulation to stick around with a niche product like this. If you're a mainstream gamer dabbling then there is simply not enough in the locker of any simulation to keep your interest for long.

When I'm interested in a new item - from any providor - I look on Youtube as people post videos of items and you can see what it looks and sounds like.rkk01 wrote:I know their is another supplier, and TBH their offering fits my period of interest perfectly, but in the Internet age, not being able to find out about the product, discuss patches and fixes* etc is a no go for me.
There was a good one posted on the London to Faversham route a week or so after it was released.
Also I check the Steam/Railworks forum to get peoples views.

I would recommend the Steam forum as a good place to go and discuss any developers products. Nothing is off-limits on the Steam forum.749006 wrote:When I'm interested in a new item - from any providor - I look on Youtube as people post videos of items and you can see what it looks and sounds like.rkk01 wrote:I know their is another supplier, and TBH their offering fits my period of interest perfectly, but in the Internet age, not being able to find out about the product, discuss patches and fixes* etc is a no go for me.

Re: Class 08 coming out on steam soon
ahhh and to think some people thought I was being pessimistic when I said it would probably come with one livery only. Well looks like I was wrong with two liveries coming with it but that still is pretty bad if it is just the original model with added raindrops and no updated features. Still my rampant cynicism aside as already said this will not change until either enough people stop buying these V2 addons that are being released, or if another Train Simulator comes along and directly challenges RSC for the market. I might buy it in a sale for the meshtools wagons included but at full price?
sums up my reaction. Still off to the Photoshop cave with let's see if I can whip up something with the Woodhead 08 in the meantime

Same here, not interested in what RSC have to offer with their marketing strategy now that WloS has been released and that was the only exception as I wanted to support Keith unless of course Keith has anything else up his considerable sleeves? I have put my hard earned into 3rd party efforts and will do so from now on, looking forward to the 3 corner route and the Berlin Wittenberg, may actually have a go at purchasing the ECMl section from Grantham?andynwt wrote:I haven't bought anything from RSC for ages having spent heavily in the past, and I am sure there are plenty of others like me.
