Not sure what activities come with the class 156 & 158 as they have been re-released i know the class 150 has activities for the Exeter - Bristol route, for the routes you have mentioned the class 158 would be best in terms of prototipicle use in real life, but the class 150 is a much better unit in terms of detail and functions is great to drive.

To be honest. I wouldn't bother with the 158. It is definitely showing it's age. I never use it anymore. It's only good for AI.
The 156 is good, but bare in mind, the are no TSX features like rain and visible headlight beams.
The 150 is very good. Not a bad thing to say about it. Also come with 3 (I think?) scenarios for the Edinburgh-Glasgow route.
Have you thought about the Waggonz 142?
Callum.

Of the three you listed, definitely the 150, has some nice extra features, is fully up to TS2013 standards (including Quick Drive) and is generally a fantastic model. The 156 is a very fine model but does not have TS2013 features or QD (out of the box anyway). The 158 is the weakest of the three, with no TS2013 features (but does have QD consists included) and is an inferior model to the version included with Settle to Carlisle.
If you wanted to look further afield I would second the endorsement for the Waggonz/AP Pacer, which I think is the best all round DMU available.

I really like the 156, but that's because I prefer Scottish stock. Otherwise the 156/150/142 are all of equal extraordinary quality.
Dont bother with the 158 other than to fill in AI in scenarios, it's quite widely used

There is a version of the 158 available which has TSX effects with the Settle to Carlisle route for which Armstrong powerhouse have some reskins for as part of one of their extra stock packs including an excellent SWT class 159 skin.

Re: Which DMU set to purchase
Armstrong have done a replacement sound set also which improves the class 158.
The Just Trains 153 is also worth getting and can be used on most routes apart from the Scottish ones.
If you are talking proper DMU's, then it would have to be something first generation for me!!

+1 on this... They all have their merits of course, considering they are DMUs...

Re: Which DMU set to purchase
DMU's are great but they are not proper dmu's unless they rattle, rasp and the windows slowly open on their own!
!
And we still don't have enough of them in Railworks!!
