Question and saying hello.

Post by Col1948 »

First I'll say 'Hello' it is a long time since I was on here so I'm a newbie again.
I decided to re-install my MSTS and got in to it again, still a bit rusty though, any way through being away from it for a while I never realised there was new versions out.
So after investigating a bit I ordered TS2013, it hasn't arrived yet but looking forward to it.

Now my question, I did a search but can you clarify for me please, will or do the old models and routes work in TS2013 from the earlier versions of the sim, if I read some posts correctly they do but just checking.

Thanks for the help in advance.

You will find a few things that don't work well but they're usually able to be worked round. An example would be early reskins for diesels where the later graphics effects, known as TSX, crash the view through the front window. You fix that one by turning TSX off. More generally, what you'll miss out on is rain on the windows and the textures often aren't as good as the latest models.

Overall, it's not a significant problem and very few models won't work at all.

Thanks for the quick reply Keith,

I used to use Flight sim, the earlier models worked in the new version but the new models wouldn't work in the old plus a few other things.

As for MSTS, I'm slowly getting back in to it again, I've just been editing an engine file to change the cab view and sounds using Context Editor, I used to use it before, any way I managed to do what I wanted so I pat myself on the back lol.

If you look through the downloads at the MSTS and TS2013 versions of locos and stock you should find the quality and appearance is better in TS2013.

MSTS looks old and clunky - to me (before I upset someone) :)

Hi Col,
From your posts I get the impression that you may be thinking that TrainSimulator2013 is a new version of MSTS.
TrainSimulator2013 is in fact the latest version of Rail Simulator/Railworks and is different to MSTS.

Hi Col

As Ted says, it does seem you are under the impression that TS2013 is somehow connected with MSTS. The answer to that is nothing form MSTS will work in TS2013 :o

You may also not be familiar with the maintenance of the program through Steam and myriad other differences which make this a totally different simulator to MSTS.

I suggest you carefully read through the UKTS forums to get an idea of how TS2013 works and ask questions if you have any queries. This is an amazing Train Simulator, but it is also very complex and not so easily modified as MSTS. The program is also under constant development by RailSimulator.com with a team of over 40 employed people and many others from the Community, pushing the limits on a daily basis.

If you wanted to stick with MSTS, however, you need to be looking at OpenRails. There is a separate UKTS forum for this developing program which may be of interest to you.

Ah! I just looked at my order from Amazon, yes it does say Rail Simulator, it has a green diesel pax train on the cover.

I do also own a copy of Rail Sim which I also re-installed, I am very very rusty at one, I hardly ever played it, so does this TS2013 use the same keys as the early version of Rail sim, if so I'll have to get used to it a bit?

By Rail Sim what do you mean?
I searched for Rail Sim and came up with a company that does stuff for Trainz - which is another totally different simulator.

Yes that is the one, with it saying Train Simulator and not Rail Simulator I somehow thought it was a later version of the MSTS, my mistake for being out of the game for a while.

An easy mistake to make as the cover style is very similar to MSTS but Train Simulator 2013 is the latest version of this evolving game which has had various other titles such as Rail Simulator, Railworks, Railworks 2, Train Simulator 2012 (Railworks 3) and Train Simulator 2013 (Railworks 4).

The DVD will enable you to load the vast majority of information onto your computer very quickly but you will still need to create a Steam account (if you do not already have one) and then log on to Steam where all the latest updates since the DVD was produced will be downloaded and installed on your computer. This could still take some time though, so you will need to be patient. Read all instructions on the DVD and on the Steam site to ensure that you get the quickest and most complete final installation.

You can find more information on Steam at the UKTS forum section here -

PAX is another name for passenger.

In the airline business, you may hear the phrase a 'PAX manifest' which is a list of passengers being conveyed by the airline. Watch the film 'Executive Decision' featuring Kurt Russell and Halle Berry and the phrase is used by the terrorists hijacking the plane.

Crikey - what a sad sod I am... lol

Having said all that, the film may actually use the phrase 'passenger manifest,' but believe me, that's what it is.
That .geopdx file is not a code used by the Rebel Alliance...

You can also get a good idea of what is available now by going into Youtube and running a search on TS2013. Happy viewing and welcome (back!)
