Looking at a new computer thiking of going for an i5 3570k vs i7 3770k same clock speed
Only about 80 quid difference but it all adds up.
Thanks for your input

Hyperthreading will be the main thing. i5 won't have it, i7 will..

The 17 may have a bigger cache too, which in theory could give it a small performance boost when running some programs, but maybe not enough to warrant the extra 80 quid.
As you're looking at a 'K' variant you'll have the option to overclock if you need more grunt----assuming you're also looking at a motherboard that allows this, so I'd save the £80 and go for the i5.

I have an i5 3570k (overclocked to 4.4Ghz) and it's fine for TS2013. It's generally regarded as the "best bang for buck" chip price/performance wise.

Might just be worth checking out the AMD FX 3850, it seems to perform (at least in AAA titles) as well as a 3570k, and will save some cash on the platform for both motherboard and CPU.

In general the bell curve of performance in these chipsets for the price started flat lining at the i5-2500K/i7 2600K releases. Sure there are much beefier CPUs with OVER 9000 CORES and 242342GB of cache but for the home desktop gamer the extra bragging rights generally don't translate to what you actually experience in gaming and typical home use performance. Great for commercial use though in the audio, video, graphical commercial field.
