As I've already said on this forum, a simply stunning route - as someone who lived in this area for a number of years & witnessed the Beeching butchery, the accuracy created by Keith is awesome.
Well done Keith - what would this sim do without you ?

Brilliant route indeed. It got me loving railworks again after getting fed up with it for awhile.

Utterly, utterly fantistic. Such a beautiful route, watching all of the fields and unique landmarks drifting by. Keith, be very, very proud of what you have acheived here.

As a side note, what scenarios/engines are good to run on this line? Has Keith made some more?

I would love to add this route to my collection but fear it will have to wait until the sales, due to my graphics card giving up the ghost and me having to fork out for a new one, which has left my PC budget for the next few months in a sorry state of affairs.

In many ways this has I feel been a landmark week for TS2013 with the release of the much awaited Western Lines of Scotland. I downloaded it last weekend but only now have had a proper opportunity to try it out. I can only add to the accolades already awarded to Keith and my thanks for what is, by any standards, an outstanding achievement.

I was a little disappointed to see some of the rather critical comments in other threads now closed – a reality check is in order. In my youth (which seems many years ago now) we entertained ourselves by playing a computer game which involved looking at a monochrome cathode ray tube and controlling two rectangular bats with some form of joystick control with which you could move the bats up and down the screen in the hope of making contact with the ‘ball’ in a game of virtual table tennis. My first computer was a Dragon 32 which taught me the fundamentals of programming in BASIC. As the name suggests it had 32 kilobytes of memory and no disk drive. Programmes had to be loaded from a cassette tape in a portable recorder. An external floppy disk drive was later introduced which was built like a tank and took large floppy disks – I cannot remember how much data they held but it was pathetic by today’s standards. We all thought this was marvellous at the time and I recall thinking to myself how good it would be if we could become a virtual train driver on our computers.

Now 35 odd years on I have just driven a ‘Black 5’on a goods train from Dumfries to Carlisle with a level of realism which is frankly nothing short of astonishing. To say that Keith’s WLOS is a work of art is probably an understatement. I find it very difficult to comprehend how anyone can actually not only undertake the design work and research to create something such as this but then have the ability, time and dedication to produce it in a form that we can now all enjoy. It has surely set the standard now by which any future routes will be judged – the bar has now been raised to an incredibly high level. Yes we want more - of course we do. Railway enthusiasts have always had a reputation of being rivet counters and intolerant of anything that falls short of expectations. However this is a computer simulation - we may have to wait until next year for the heat, smells, coal dust and general bombardment of the senses that comes with being on the footplate of a working steam locomotive!

A friend of mine who is very ‘railway savvy’ visited recently. He had no knowledge of TS2013 so I fired up a scenario for him on WCML – his jaw dropped. I can only imagine now what his reaction will be when he experiences Keith’s latest offering. The only problem is that my current collection of steam locos is probably nowhere near where it needs to be for the WLOS scenarios that will no doubt be forthcoming in due course – more strain on the wallet!

Enjoy

Regards

Peter

TS and I have had our problems, and with so much DLC available for the game obviously the quality of it is going to vary.

That said Keith's work has always been among my favorites, with the free Port Road and WCML being right up there.

Ive been waiting for Western Lines since seeing those early youtube posts and now its finally here (and ive had a chance to run up and down it) I must say it is simply the best route for TS ever created. Keith's attention to detail and authenticity are second to none, and that coupled with the interesting geography of the route makes this a gem. The atmosphere just oozes from it, there is always something to see and its a real time machine that transports you back to a fascinating period in rail history.

If you only decide to get one extra route for TS, then make it this one, you wont be disappointed. The route, the very generous helping of scenarios, a very nice Black 5, plus extra stock mean its great value for money. Add to that the fact that Keith has also released an number of extra scenarios via Steam Workshop and there is something for everyone. WLOS is the must have. I really cant wait to see what Keith comes up with next, the bar has been well and truly raised with this work.

Fantastic and my sincere thanks!

Hi, have just bought this route and I do agree with all the comments here.... brilliant route.

Right, thats the crawling over but I have found what are possibly a few issues that maybe require fixing.

i) At Mossband/Admiralty Junction it is not possible to cross over from the the Down Main to the sidings.....the train derails on the first crossover from down main to up main. On the hud the line ends here in a buffer stop.

ii) if you go by the Waverley route you cannot enter the Longtown platform.

Can someone confirm that I'm not just complaining for complaints sake as this is not my intention.

I noticed also that there are "Flashing Aspects" in 1960's, this is probably a TS issue with the signalling provided.

And finally, the new Black 5 does not appear to be compatible with a Raildriver.....everything bar the throttle works, if someone knows how to fix this one, I'd appreciate it.

Again I'd like to say brilliant route.

You can press the 'B' key to switch the loco to legacy controls - that may work
Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.

Thankyou for that firstborn. It worked.

I wondered where that information about the B key came from and so RTM. There was nothing in my manual about this.

So I googled it....and sure enough there is a second manual on steam (here: http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/222 ... 1363851455) which shows this information as section 4 which is omitted from my manual (as is section 10 on headlamps).

Thanks for the info.
