Re: Crouch Valley 3 - Great Eastern
Hi guys, I have received an email expressing some concerns regarding my use of the GEML Assets. Whilst that conversation will remain private I wanted to post my reply here publicly, so that if others have the same views as the sender of the PM, that you may understand why, I have used the assets, if not necessarily agreeing.
"Hello, thanks for your email and your feedback regarding using GEML assets.
I am sorry that you are no longer interested in the route, due to this, and that is a shame however it is your decision and I respect that.
To address your points, you do not HAVE to now buy GEML, but can make the decision depending on your own needs or finances or may be able to wait for a sale.
Although Crouch Valley requires payware assets it is a completely free piece of work, 5 years in the making and essentially means that the routes you have purchased have now helped to created a completely new extra route for no extra charge.
GEML contains assets that are not available anywhere else nor are easily recreated. i.e. London Liverpool Street. Therefore the only way of finishing the route to the standard I wanted it to be, was to use the GEML assets. If I did not use them, there would be no London Liv as there is nothing close to it to use freeware wise. I emailed RSC twice for permission for them to assist with an edited version of Paddington, that could of stepped in, but did not receive a reply.
Likewise the GEML has the class 360. A unit which I am not a big fan of in real live (preferring the 321) but want to use because its part of the stock for that line.
Ultimately you route build for yourself and the bonus is that everything gets shared with others. However I need to use the assets that I have purchased and to have a finished article that I am happy with.
I was conscious that a requirement of GEML assets to run a different version of the same route appears contradictory but I know which version I will be running when its finished.
finally a second version of the route, stopping at Stratford, is the best nod that I can give to those that don't have, don't want or can't yet purchase the GEML. This means not having the GEML will mean there is just 4 miles that you won't have at your disposal. In the scheme of the whole route, (maths not my strong point) that means not having the GEML assets means you are missing out on 2.6% of the route or that you still have 97.4% available.
Hope this clarifies the point.
Kind regards
J"

I think that's a perfectly reasonable response. And good on you for responding to the person who messaged you anyway - you didn't have to.
I'm looking forward to seeing - nay, driving - your work.

Looking forward to the release too Jim.
As for the grumbleweeds, its your route and you decide what goes in it fair and as simple as that, after all you're not twisting peoples arms to download it are you?
The moaning one gets for using payware is one of the reasons I do not upload scenario's anymore Jim!

Use what you want Jim. It's your route after all.
It's a real shame that people HAVE to buy the WCML-N route completely to use my WCML-N occlusions mod isn't it?

Re: Crouch Valley 3 - Great Eastern
I don't understand, if someone was really interested in this version of GEML+Branches why wouldn't they already have picked up RSC's GEML.. It has been in sales!
Unless people have the attitude of "I won't buy that because I know there will be a free one". I'm in the mindset of if there are assets that would improve this route then go for it!
Of course I am in a dilemma after spending a few months working on activities for GEML. I may want to do it all over again with this version! I've got a lovely 156 and 153 GA Red reskins i've done for future activities that would be perfect for the Sudbury line!

Re: Crouch Valley 3 - Great Eastern
I have just bought the RSC version in the sales, but am also looking forward to Jim`s version, but am thinking of using both versions in different times the RSC version set in modern times, and Jim`s version in the BR era athough we are lacking suitable traction from this era in the form of EMUs. One lives in hope that somebody will make 302,305,309 & 312 although i doubt this would be RSC
Re: Crouch Valley 3 - Great Eastern
Does anyone know what happened to the Wherry Lines Route to Lowestoft which was being created? Would have complimented any Great Eastern route so well.
Also Jim, if you ever feel like having a go at another route, could I put in a shout for the C2C line from Fenchurch Street. I think you'd be on safe ground with RSC not producing a version of it as happened with GEML. Can't wait to try your Great Eastern Route.

I believe that part of the route was lost by a hard drive malfunction however, I believe the route is still on the creator's computer. I don't think he's got round to finishing/releasing it (if he is, please correct me if I'm wrong and I'll edit my posts to suit)
Here's an idea (and only that ;D) why not add that into a later version seeing as you've already got the Romford Branch. Just a thought.
Regards,
Anthony
