Hi all,
I have been playing TS2013 since the steam sale over Christmas. Was a big MSTS user about 8 years ago, but with the graphics looking dated hadn't played it for a while.. but anyway, back on topic!
I have been purchasing various items for TS2013 all from the modern image (class 70, class 67[JT], voyager, pendelino etc etc) and have been really happy with the two scenario packs i purchased from Armstrong Powerhouse on the WCML-n which seems to be really good and accurate which i really like.
Is there a quick easy way i can get all of these things into games to play without spending hours and hours creating a scenario just so i can see everything I've purchased. I would like to drive not create if at all possible, but its a bit frustrating driving the stock class 70 senarios for example and seeing BR class 86 and 47's and not a 66 and voyager.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Best way of adding new stock
Hi Andy
Quick drive was really the answer to that, but as you say the limited AI doesn't give a great experience.
There's quite a few scenarios in the library using the DLC you mention, and you can swap things out with RWTools.
Creating scenarios becomes much quicker after a few goes and is rewarding, and isn't too hard on double lines with little interaction.
AP are probably best know for scenarios, though Digital Traction and Fastline do some good ones if you don't mind £1 ish a throw. Theres also some UKTS freeware pack scenarios for certain stock / routes.
Hope that helps
Ben

Re: Best way of adding new stock
Hi Retrorally,
Like you, I prefer just running trains as opposed to setting up scenarios so I was delighted when Quick Drive was added to TS2013, but it doesnt look realistic running trains with empty sidings and no or few Ai trains.
So, having given this much thought, I recently wrote to the RailSimulator bods with the following idea.
At present, rakes of consist coaches, wagons etc can be built in Scenario Editor using the Consist button (and grey box) method. These consists get stored in the Steam / Steamapps / common / railworks / content / consistTemplate file. As this is a .Bin file, it can only be read using Mike's excellent RW_Tools. However, this only reads the complete file - what would be really useful is if this ConsistTemplate file could be read as a list of the consists within it (without all the other info). Then, I envisage being able to drag and drop consist items from this list into a "holding" file ( so if one was building a scenario from the 50s, for example, one would only drag and drop 50s stock, for realism purposes.) One would then be able to "pepper" the chosen route with the consists from the holding file and the rakes of coaches, wagons etc would then appear randomly in sidings and platforms throughout the route, making an end to end drive much more realistic. I envisage grades of "peppering" - light, medium and heavy etc because sidings at different times of the day are busier than others, and because operators with older PCs would prefer less consists to keep the scenario file size to a minimum. I think a similiar idea could be adopted for adding Ai trains, although individual Ai instructions, I suspect, would still have to be added by the operator.
I have already built a number of end to end driving scenarios with lots of empty stock and realistic amounts of Ai for a number of my routes, which I shall be uploading on this site for people to try - but these are extremely time consuming to build and I would rather be driving than building. Just imagine being able to fill half of the Woodhead sidings with rakes of coal trains, just with a few clicks, rather than over a few days!
Maybe there is a clever person on this site who can develop this idea. In any case, Retrorally, thankyou for starting this debate.

I don't imagine - I just do it. One click per consist - probably 15-20 clicks per minute, dependant on the distance travelled.malcolmfhill wrote: Just imagine being able to fill half of the Woodhead sidings with rakes of coal trains, just with a few clicks, rather than over a few days!

Ceegee - please explain your method as I'm clearly missing something. "travelling" along an entire route in Scenario editor mode and adding multiple consist rakes in yards / sidings takes me forever. If there is a way of speeding up this process then I'd love to know. Regards, Malcolm

There are plenty of tutorials around on using the scenario editor without me writing or videoing another.

Re: Best way of adding new stock
I have a similar question on this. I have scenerios I would like to run using a different train. If I take original train out, teh scenerio cmmands get taken out too. How can I replaces a train I drive in a scenerio with another, and keep all the scenerios orders and commends the same? Forgive me but creating the scenerio from scratch or for the new loco is still beyond me.

Use RW_Tools.sargnickfury wrote:I have a similar question on this. I have scenerios I would like to run using a different train. If I take original train out, teh scenerio cmmands get taken out too. You can't (as far as I know) swap locos with instructions in the in-game scenario editor. You can in RW_Tools.
