How long's a piece of string?
differing PC's will handle long, asset heavy routes differently and as a PC's resources and the amount of VAS the game can 'see' are finite then yes, there is a limit but as far as I'm aware nobody has actually put figures to it yet.

I doubt anybody's pc could handle such a long route with detailed scenery.
We have Paddington-Reading-Didcot ,Bristol-Exeter and South Devon Banks (not really modern) to Plymouth.
The missing link is the route through Castle Cary to link to the Bristol-Exeter route. You could then make separate scenarios for each route.

Yes I know about that one but it only is modern as far as Paignton I think. That would be more suitable though.

I think the accepted "max route length" is around the length of the WCML-N route. It's about 100 miles as the crow flies but there's loads of extra lines and links when you get north of Carstairs which would put the track total up a fair bit if not the actual main route length as the crow flies.

I seem to remember threads about it being at the limit of what the route maker could do without it all crashing and SBHHing all over the place.

This was a few years back kind so the maximum may have increased a little since then.

There is also the question as to how long it would take to create Paddington to Plymouth (and why stop there? Why not go all the way to Penzance?) to a satisfactory standard?

Plymouth to Penzance would be a better bet ;-)
Other bits of the overall route are already available / or possibly a bit dull???

(Have thought about extending CCfE east to Tavistock Jnc... )

I think there are over 400 route miles on the NEF and i can run it on my old p.c.

Thanks Ash - lots of water under the bridge since that was released so found v3 and just about to take a look.

There is mention in other threads about a 'v4' of the route - any idea where I would find it please?

MTIA,

I have an idea it's still WiP, but I'll have to check - I think there are some shots in one of the screenshots threads.

The more long route causes more loading time, and may need higher specs of PC.
