It updates when you start TS2013. Mine has.

Well, mine hasn't. I've started Steam and TS2013 a number of times since yesterday, and nada. I'm loathe to verify the cache, particularly if I don't have to and changes won't be overwritten by the normal switch to Steampipe. I guess I'll just keep waiting to see what happens.

Ditto here, when I start up TS2013 it just runs normally loading screens etc and then the menu screen. When I select a route and scenario again it just continues as it should no screens or popups stating that it need to update.
Maybe it did update without any intervention on my behalf, if so it must have been very quick and I certainly dont have ultrafast broadband judging by how long it should take according to other posts on this topic.

Refering to recent posts in this thread and repeating information already given - the sure fire way to see if the update has happened is to check your 'Steamapps' folder and if this file is there "appmanifest_24010.acf"
then it has!

As for waiting for Steam to update then I tried holding my breath for a few hours yesterday and the bit the bullet and did a manual 'verify cache' - job done and TS2013 is running OK with just a couple of fixes to some default files I had changed (that is where the recommended back-up comes in to play!) - the most critical was to put the old sound file back as I cannot stand the clanking bells of the USA

Antony,

If you read back up the thread a bit you'll see that I had the .acf fil in place for some hours before the update / conversion process happened so the presence of the .acf file alone isn't a guarantee that the process is complete. When the conversion happens you'll know because TS2013 won't start until its complete. The Status of TS2013 in the Steam Client Library view will show as 'Update Required' in yellow when you select 'Play Game' another smaller window will open showing the progess of the update.

But has it? I have that file, it was dated 29/01/2013 2.51 pm, first thing this morning, but it is now 30/01/2013 8.30 am and the program still will not restart after clearing cache, except manually.

The following is the response from RS Support and is dated 29/01/2013 10.31 am:
On Monday afternoon (UK) (morning in the US) we will be changing the way we deliver Train Simulator and add-ons to a new system called ‘SteamPipe’.

The SteamPipe system is a new way of delivering content via Steam. This new system has a more efficient patching algorithm which will mean smaller and faster downloads for updates and fixes.

This update to SteamPipe will be automatically requested the next time you open or log in to Steam or Train Simulator after the Monday switch. You will be alerted to the update with the message “Steam needs to convert the game content for “Train Simulator 2013” to a new, more efficient format. This will require an Internet connection and a few minutes’ time.”

The changes should take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

The on-screen instructions will take you through the download and automatic configuration process. After the conversion is complete, Steam may need to download any missing content or files.

As with all our updates, we recommend that content creators backup their work prior to the update.

The change to SteamPipe will not affect the way the game performs. However, if you experience any problems after the update has downloaded and completed, please contactsupport@railsimulator.com.

This is an automated response - one of our dedicated support team will be in touch as soon as possible.
I am still awaiting the dedicated response. The real point is that what is described in that email just did not happen and still has not.

All I can think is that, after the update, you have a local problem and is not associated with this?

To recap what I did yesterday:
Put Steam on line and waited - nothing came over.
Restarted Steam and opened my accound then did a 'verify cache' - this happened OK and the new files came over which were confirmed by the .acf file being in place of the old one and all the default Content routes folders were redated to the time of the update (btw, that will always be your local clock).
Put Steam back off-line and started the Sim - then clicked on Main Menu...Games Settings...Tools...Clear Cache. The sim screen went back to the loader and returned to the Main Menu screen and I proceeded from there without any visible problems and has run fine ever since. I beleive that many others have done this too?

Only the Content folder has been redated, currently 30/01/2013 8.37 am, all the Route folders are either at their original or previously updated dates.

John

PS Verified cache for a second time, still the same.

I let my laptop update last night but I haven't done my main PC yet. The laptop took about 2 hours and I have a reasonably fast connection. I don't see how it can do it without you knowing, I had to give the OK for the changes to take place.

Should I consider doing verify cache or avoid it? I do have a full back up of Assets and Content.

Good morning Simon
I just logged in to steam and then allowed it to update when prompted
Once the update had been applied steam automatically checked my TS2013 set up for missing content
I didn't need to verify the cache
Kind regards Stephen

You shouldn't need to verify your cache to get this update, as it only updates Steam files - specifically appmanifest_24010.acf in the Steamapps folder. Check first if you already have this file - if you do, then you don't need to do anything; if you don't then either shut down and restart your Steam client from the task bar, or start TS2013. This upgrade is so fast that if you blink you will miss it.

I suspect the reports of massive downloads by some people are either the result of a delayed implementation of the previous update, or having many user modified DLC files.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.
