All you people with problems, why not email Steam support. I have seen these king of problems with other games where there has been an update of some sort, where for the majority of people the update works, but for a small few it doesn't. So RSC/Steam are not the only companies who have these kind of problems.

No problems here so far. It took about 65 minutes from start to finish, downloading 189.5kB initially and 39.4MB after the conversion had completed. I'm doing some quick checks and everything works so far with the exception of one scenario. Others using the same loco are OK. It took ages to load the first time and seems to take a while every time it loads a new route, as if it's building a .pak file, but then runs as fast as it ever did.

Mine took no time and downloaded only 1 File so it cannot have been done properly.
Kind regards James.

This was on my second computer. I did a verify cache on my other one a couple of days ago and it all seems to have been done at the same time. I didn't think it had happened until I checked for the new files and found them present. Unfortunately, it seems you've been very unlucky, James. Do you have a recent back-up you can put back and give the process another whirl?

James, long shot but check that your security software isn't blocking access to Steams update server, this update may very well come from a different one to that used for game updates.

Am I being really slow here?
What exactly is the issue?

As I understand it (and I accept I could be wrong)
The conversion to steampipe seems to involve two steps.
  • 1. The removal of .ncf files to be replaced with 1 .acf file.
    2. A verify to make sure your game assets are up to date.
So, you've had step 1 happen but not step 2.
So verify then. Problem solved.
RSC have already told you that if you have other content (their word was games) from Steam that is delivered through Steampipe, you wont get the message on screen.
You have other content from Steam (Silent Hinter 5 Video) and seeing as you didnt get a message on screen is it reasonable to assume that it came through the above process?
I didnt get a message telling me that my game was being converted, neither did Chris on his account. We DO have other games but seeing as TS2013 ran without issue, then what is there for us to worry about?

Although seeing as you have removed TS2013, it's a moot point now anyway.

I have Skyrim through Steam and it took about a minute to update. I got the updating message with both Skyrim and TS2013.

Well done Dave - I have been banging on all day about what does and what doesn't happen and have asked several questions of people with problems some of which haven't been answered!!

I really do wonder if these messages are being read at times so begining to think it best I paddle my own canoe now rather than help others resolve issues best I can

I think the message from RSC support was clear enough....
We are aware of an instance whereby the Steam client does not notify you about the change over. This appears to happen when the user already has a game or games that use the system.

The unable to launch error is due to the Steam Client trying to launch the game before it has actually completely closed from the previous session. At this time simply click play in the steam client to re-open the game.

I never even noticed it had done it! Got no popup but that may be because I have other games, it didn't even do a verify as I still have my 2012 start screen from me re installing my re verify folder from an earlier verification? If James you have a back up remove the files that are outside your common folder in steam and replace them with the old .ncf files and see what happens after you start steam?

There might be an issue with TrackRules containing x-number of entries - I'm unable to change the track type (select and then change using the right hand flyout). Everything works in my RW backup copy (and in RS), but not after the recent Steampipe update (or perhaps it was the update earlier this month - I can't be certain). Investigating...
Cheers!

I never noticed My version updating, it seemed to do it all on its own, I only have one problem that of not beig able to verify the cache, i get the afformentioned game is still running message, which obiously it is as the button is now on the games tools menu! One other thing i should say is that since the last big update I hae not had one single crash the sim seems much more stable.

This seems to have happened in my case too. Its all working fine tho. I also had the Game Already Running message. I am sure someone will come up with a fix for that sooner or later.
