Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
Can anyone help with this?
When in cab in the Jubilee and the JT Patriot I often get a sound like a vibrating metal plate which drowns out all other sounds.
Installing the MW Jubilee sound pack (which incidentally I thought I had already installed) seems to have cured it for that loco. However obviously I still have the issue with the Patriot and it is ruining the experience somewhat.
Grateful for any suggestions

Is it the firebox door sound?
Can't help you to fix it, but I reckon that's what it probably is.

Re: Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
Thanks Bob. I could always try temporarily renaming any sound file named that. Unfortunately cannot see any file named firebox for the Patriot.
I was really enjoying riding the cab with my Track IR and being able to lean out a bit to see the track all from the inside view - just like real life. Then that plate/vibrator or whatever starts up!

I get it, too, Bob on pretty much all steam locos. Once they're moving above about 65 mph it can kick in. I'd say it's a glitch with the shovelling sound but it only occurs when I'm driving in the cab. If I use the Shift+2 view, which is my usual way to drive a kettle, it doesn't appear. It's a PIA when driving a modern line with AWS, though because you have little choice but to drive from the cab o miss hearing the AWS horn.

Interesting - at least it is not just me.
Re: Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
Odd - just had something similar with a DT Std 4MT on one of their Woodhead Scenario packs. 1st time I've heard this!

More seriously I can't recall the last time I drove a steamer above 40, but I've also had issues with the same sound occuring even then. I'd thought that it was a problem with the F4 functionality, but perhaps that's not the case?

I think the solution lies buried in a curiously-named thread here:

In looking at the bin file for the Patriot it also seems to reference the Black 5. Therefore I have gone to the Black 5 and renamed the stoking dav files.
I will report back when I get chance to continue my trip and see if that has helped the issue.

Re: Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
Ok renaming the 3 stoking files seems to have stopped the noise. Will run some more later and if I get time perhaps re enable the files one at a time.
For now after 5 mins in cab no issue with that sound so fingers crossed.

Needs to be highlighted to RSC (do they watch here?) for checking and patch via Steam perhaps?

Re: Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
The sound issue is due to the length of the sound recording and if its flagged as single loop or continous loop, the thread linked highlight the files which cause the issue but its down to the recent changes to OpenAL which have brought the issue up. Basically before we had the issue where sounds would cut out in general and single loop sounds could vanish after awhile, you could get away with very short sound recordings and put them on loops or single play and they would play for awhile before eventually the issue arised.
However with the new OpenAL sound engine included in TS2013 all sounds can be played without issue and more sounds can be played, however one drawback is extremely short sound recordings will cut out or start to play super fast. So in this example the simulator is issuing the command to play the stoking sound, since its not lagging behind and can play instant the sound plays. The only issue is that the shoveling sound is classified as loop...but the simulator is issuing the command "play sound" over and over for each shovel motion, what this causes is one loop to start, then another and another and another to the point they overlap and echo and you get that horrible sound you hear.
Basically to fix the issue RSC just needs to record a longer shoveling sound, around 20-25secs in total. It creates a longer loop and the simulator won't issue a command to play the sound to that entire loop is finished playing, shorter sound .davs of 1-2secs set to loop cause issues and currently the stoking sound is also calling up two .dav files which a short recordings which in turn means your doubling your looping, overlapping and echo.

I'm glad you are on to this. I was finding it irritating but just thought it was something to do with my system.
Thanks for the peace of mind.

Re: Sound anomoly with Jubilee and JT Patriot.
As RSC are not likely to correct this in the meantime I will just disable the stoking files then.
Thanks for confirming what the issue is.
