Re: CLASS101 Strathclyde
What happens if they start charging £10 more for weathered versions, to match the price scales of models? (As they seem to be going at looking at those prices!)

Re: CLASS101 Strathclyde
Not for me - I reckon that's it for RSC DLC for me for a bit, like others have said here, I've no objection to paying a few quid for an upgrade, but when you've got a full price piece of DLC with issues (physics, lighting, passenger view) that never gets rectified, then £12 for a "new" one, that doesn't even fix those issues, I think they're pushing their luck. All we've got is the ability not to buy the stuff, well I think I'm gonna start exercising that right now......

With TSX features included, most noticeably rain on the windows, the headlights are realistic for the class/era and do not light up the track like many modern clusters would. The physics are improved, although the unit is still a bit spritely, it doesn't take off like the units in the original pack did so provides a much more realistic experience. The sounds have also been tweaked and provide a much more realistic feel and the age old issue with the screaming rear unit has been resolved along with the removal of the interior "glow" that was very noticeable in the original version. Another welcome addition is the passenger view which brings back many memories of travelling down the Esk Valley line in my childhood. Finally, the cab has also received a makeover and gives a much more solid feel. All in all, the pack is a big improvement over the original and is still, in my opinion, one of the best looking units created for Railworks and latterly Train Simulator so far.

Hi
This thread is fantastic.
Not only are we introduced to the word 'onanistic', which in itself is enough for me for one day. But then the additional foray into astronomy has left me feeling totally satiated.
Thanks.
Looking forward to the Scotsman thread already.
Cheers
Bob

Re: CLASS101 Strathclyde
I'm looking forward to the day when my original Scotsman which I bought 2 weeks ago will actually work! Still no solution from RSC about this, I have raised this issue twice with them. I don't particularly want it updating - I'd just like to be able to use what I've bought!Looking forward to the Scotsman thread already.

But ho hey, offtopic we go
Darren's blog post does highlight some of the new changes and improvements which would probably more merit a a begrudged purchase but I think it still unfortunately as a DLC package a purchase which should wait for steam sale periods, though conviently for folks the x-mas steam sale season should be around in another 10 or so days so if your wanting this but not willing to pay its current price then you can get it then if need be. Not to say I've had a change of heart, I stand by what I've said before and think this is still a bad way to go about doing things.
Either way, I think many of us are going to make informed decisions when considering purchases of DLC which are of previous packs and won't be swayed to the "oooo shinies!" sentiment behind the new packs, however in the same light I don't think RSC can ultimately ignore the negative feedback which has been said, not to say they will read here but even looking on their own facebook page people are not expressing a overall "jumping for joy" buzz over the packs from comments left.
No one is disillusioned to the fact that RSC need to make money to keep going and to cover development of new projects or update to old, but at the same time any of us are prospective buyers and alot are from a pre-existing userbase and the underlining vibe feels that these new packs are not targetted at the market audience which established RSCs stronger position they are in today. I don't think that is self entitlement or putting across the vibe "You owe us man! you owe us!" but rather when they are creating these new packs for the new users from TS2013 that they just spend alittle more time in copying over the editted files to the older content and then having steam auto update.
Unless I've lost the plot, I don't think the arguement which has spun from this is about getting the Strathcylde for free because we already purchased the 101 pack before, but the updates, e.g. physics, sound and texture adjustment so it isn't neon glowing was copy pasted over for the original pack as a small update,I mean people would probably disagree with me but I could live without the passenger view being put in the small update to the original pack as it was never there in the first place. As for all intents and purposes not a aweful lot of the model has changed between the packs beyond the enclusion of a passenger view (no I don't see the cab as remodelled, its been retextured from the videos and screens I can see).
Anyway, donkey beaten enough, points have been made and not much else we can do about it now beyond getting this DLC pack in the sale at a later point, RSC have made it clear on both facebook and twitter replies the original 101 pack has no plans to be updated, so as a whole the arguement is pretty much done as nothing will be changing.
Well on a happier note, hope those who do purchase it enjoy it and look forward to utilising it on port road when that ends up being updated at some point in the future, especially with that now stretching a considerable part of the scottish region.

A vibe well and truly perceived crump, well said.the underlining vibe feels that these new packs are not targeted at the market audience which established RSCs stronger position they are in today.

Yeah, sorry, I meant that they'd fixed it in the new version, but seemingly decided not to let the original have the upgrade. Maybe they'll change their mind on it, there doesn't seem to be much praise for their approach on this, even from the usually supportive facebook page.andynwt wrote:apparently it does fix those issues...Squatch wrote:Not for me - I reckon that's it for RSC DLC for me for a bit, like others have said here, I've no objection to paying a few quid for an upgrade, but when you've got a full price piece of DLC with issues (physics, lighting, passenger view) that never gets rectified, then £12 for a "new" one, that doesn't even fix those issues
